Ok, so Ganaway says we're "stacked." Assuming DeMyron's healthy, he'll be #1, then I guess Mapps/Dorsey. I hear Butler is pretty good, but hasn't played a down yet. Henderson for a change of pace, but man we need him returning kicks & not getting hurt running the damn run. With all due respect to DeMyron, Mapps and Dorsey, am I missing something? Those three sound great, but say DeMyron gets hurt...I don't see a lot of durability given that our backs need to negotiate the line of scrimmage without a lot of O-Line input. Sounds like what we had last year, minus Fitzgerald.
I don't know that I'd call that 'stacked.' Throw in a big upgrade at O-Line, then maybe we're stacked.

I'd say were stacked with about 5 good backs that could probably start at other D-1 schools
Martin, Mapps, Dorsey, Turner, Henderson...then you have this years freshmen backs...that i didnt mention.

Ya, 5 backs that could start at other D1a schools yet our running game was awful and anemic all season long? I think not. Ya the o-line sucked but we do NOT have 5 D1a starting tailbacks. How many would that mean USC has? 14?

Mapps, Dorsey and Martin are all very capable backs, the problem is the O-line....if they dont improve it will be the same as last year

haha, okay wise [deleted], i said probably meaning that I am sure SMU was not the only school that offered 'ships to them to play football.
Those 5 guys could get snaps at RB from other D-I schools, non-BCS conference schools, like the MAC, Sun Belt, WAC, or the MWC...i'm sure that some teams have seen what Henderson does returning kicks. Martin was a Freshman-AA, Mapps has shown great improvement, so has Dorsey, and Turner has speed.

5 guys who could "get snaps" is far from your first claim.

Say WHAAAAT?!? I'm as sunshiny as anybody, but we didn't have jack at running back this year. I never could figure out what Ganaway was thinking when he said that.
DeMyron was awesome season before last, but he's never proven he can stay healthy. What's worse, he had none of his old zip this past year. Don't know if he got too big/heavy or what, be he wasn't the same back.
Mapps and Dorsey are both serviceable, but are either the featured back you want to build your team around?
Henderson is moving to slot where we can use his athleticism more without him taking the pounding he would at running back.

I heard from good source, that his shoulder was hurting him bad for most of the year. Seems to have kept him leary of getting too much contact, however looked as if he was feeling better toward the end of the season. Let's hope for full recovery for the startup of next season.

I think either Ced or Mapps could easily handle the load at running back if they got a decent amoung of carries. Yes Martian's whole body was hurt last year(or thats what it seemed like) but he dosent bring much to the table other than size. And if he never can get 100% healthy he's size wont matter. I like what i saw out of Ced this year he's got power, speed and lets not forget about a couple of the grabs he made this year! I would really like to see him more as the feature back then Mapps as the change of pace guy. Mapps not only as AWESOME quickness but could become a headache to teams lining him up at qb just to mess with there heads. One thing i didnt like seeing last year was putting Mapps in on short yardage situtations. It just dosent make sense thats not he's specialty, i forget what game it was but they put him in on 4th and goal and ran a pitch play that J Will didnt execute well and went for a lose. I think that is where Martian should be used to push the pile with his size. Also DO NOT put henderson in a rb!!!! We screwed up this year doing that and lost him for the year we need him returing kicks
