1310 The Ticket on TCU Mt. West and SMUThis morning as I was late for work, I heard the Ticket talking about what a terrible desicion it was for TCU to leave CUSA for the Mt. West. Said they would have been better off with CUSA's bowl tie-ins and travel. Then they said so WHY did TCU leave, his answer, because TCU did not want to be in the same division as SMU.
Old news and thoughts but thought it was interesting they were talking about it.
Re: 1310 The Ticket on TCU Mt. West and SMU
TCU will become a BCS conference much sooner than CUSA will..., yes, it may be just a hair closer, but still closer.
Re: 1310 The Ticket on TCU Mt. West and SMU
TCU is turning into 8 teams? It will be a whole conference? I assume you meant the Mtn. West. Even that's wrong though, because never is not sooner than never.
Re: 1310 The Ticket on TCU Mt. West and SMU
if they divided into 8 teams, we might have a chance at beating them on a regular basis
Re: 1310 The Ticket on TCU Mt. West and SMU
That says it all, the BCS will never add another conference because they are greedy and will never split the revenue any more ways than they have to. The only chance will be through force, such as litigation, but the Mountain West has no better claim than CUSA or the WAC, so this option would probably just dissolve the whole thing. TCU's only chance would be to be invited to a current BCS conference at some point down the road which is remote at best. They moved because at the time they felt when the Big East broke up that the Mountain West would gain BCS status, of course now, that will never happen and they are stuck in a lateral move at best, with major travel costs and a neglected time zone, and no natural rivalries and poorer bowl choices. Of course, not many Frogs will admit it was a mistake because of pride, but it is obvious to anyone else outside of Ft. Worth not wearing purple. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

...and yet a pivitol CUSA game involving two teams who hadn't been to a bowl in a combined 57 odd years drew 13,000 and change in Houston. Neither SMU nor anyone else in the CUSA West other than UTEP can draw flies to CUSA East or West Games. It is not as open and shut a case as SMU fans like Ponyboy and other toddlers like to believe. I believe the jury is still out on TCU's move and in fact I think right now I'd tilt toward the view that the MWC is in the best long term interest of TCU. Jury still out-I admit. The negatives I see are bowl affiliations and TV Contract which right now favor CUSA. Those issues however are fluid and could change significantly if the numbers don't add up in ratings and bowl attendance. Very worried about some of these bowls jumping ship in the future. On the other hand and MORE IMPORTANTLY TCU's recruiting has not dried up as some predicted and they have regularly whipped all CUSA West schools in recruiting since the announcement. Recruiting is the life-blood of any program and will ensure future success. CUSA will fail unless it establishes itself as the No. 1 alternative for kids who are not pursued strongly by the BCS schools.
With TCU's departure, UTEP came to CUSA. So, I don't think we were hurt by their leaving.
cause we don't think we are. But that will be borne out in the next 10 years, not anytime soon. I certainly think we are better served by affiliating ourselves with large state schools as opposed to those in CUSA. I could be wrong- but only time will tell What I do know is that in 05( haven't found the 06 yet) MWC averaged 10k more in attendance per game than CUSA teams http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/atte ... ndance.pdf Will the trend continue? I'll let you know when the figures are compiled. Will it make any difference? You know as much as I - its all a crapshoot
I have to agree with Stallion that a lot of the decision had to do with the attendance of schools in CUSA West. Our attendance has not suffered so I don't see much difference between the Mt. West and CUSA. As I've said before, we're in a non-BCS conference either way so I really don't care. (Selfishly, I'd like to be able to drive to more road games.)

They - would be Dunham and Miller. His (answer) - would be [deleted] Hicks I was surprised they spent as much time talking about it as they did.
