Where's our poster from the Big 10+1 right now?
Bet he's happy.

Someone help me understand why this wasn't ruled a safety?
Minnesota player passes the ball and it's intercepted by Texas Tech player on the Gopher 10. As the TT player is running towards the goal line, a Gopher player hits him at the 5-yard line and he fumbles the ball which rolls into the end zone. A Gopher player recovers the ball in the end zone and is tackled by a Red Raider.
Shouldn't this be a safety? If not, please explain. Thanks!

It's not a safety because the ball was intercepted, which results in a change of possesion. Because the tech guy fumbled the ball into Gopher end zone, it would have either been 1 of 2 things...a TD for Tech or a Touchback for Minnesota. Because Minnesota recovered, it was a touchback because it was not their possesion.

Thank you. That's what I thought. However, the officials then put the ball on the 2-yd. line which was the original point of possession for Minnesota prior to the INT. Why wasn't it then placed at the 20?

Are you friggin' kiddin' me? Texas Tech battles back from a 38-7 deficit and ties up the Minnesota Golden Gophers on a 52-yd. FG to send the Insight Bowl into OT with a score of 38-38.
Largest bowl comeback EVER. Unbelieveable.

Kind of like the ol' Houston Oilers v Buffalo Bills playoff game.

Cannot believe I was actually rooting for Tech in the second half. Very entertaining game. Leach was very emotional in the post game interview. Something about the tremendous effort and his guys laying it all on the line to win the game. Wish that was contagious.

He is down and out right now. Injured his back over the holidays, and is laid up without his computer and on pain meds.
But I will be sure and buzz him to let him know the results. He is probably more interested in the fact that Hussein got the rope than he is Texas Tech and NCAA bowl history.
