Marketing / advertising

I've been a little unsettled to hear commercials on the radio inviting fans to Waco for the Baylor spring game. Never mind the fact that the commercials sound boring, and that Guy Morriss sounds like he's asleep. Their game is the same day as our Red/Blue game, and they're getting more airtime in Dallas than SMU football is.

We need to start publicizing the program, and that should start with getting the word out about having Dallas turn out for the Red/Blue game. There's no reason any team - even the big state schools - should have more advertising in this town than we do. It's going to be hard to get the city to come out for the game if Dallas isn't even aware that it's taking place.

Is the athletic department on such a short budget that we can't afford ads like that? Would we have to solicit an alumni donation to pay for such a campaign? Would the school be able to arrange a trade for ad time on the Ticket?

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I haven't heard any commercials like the one you describe down here, inviting people up from Waco for the SMU spring game. Then again, it sounds like Baylor is getting more airtime up there than they do down here. Nobody I know even talks about the Bears. I wonder if they know the school is here. Guy Morris doesn't seem to have the impact or charisma that Coach Bennett's had up there.
