The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has reported that Gary Patterson's name has surfaced in its search to replace Glen Mason. Story doesn't say if he has formally been contacted.
But The U has maintained that $$ will not be an issue. With his bonuses, Mason earned about $1.9 million. The U hired a search firm out of Atlanta to help in the search.
They are spending about $285 million on the new stadium that will open in 2009. There are about 8 names on the list, but it sounds like The U is moving quickly on this.
I would love to see Patterson come to Minnesota. Not only to get him away from us, but then I'd get see him adjust his pants on The U sidelines. But I love his defense. And goodness knows the Gophers need to get their act together there.
Patterson beat Tech. Mason didn't.

That would mean Patterson finally wised up and figured out how to change conferences and get into the BCS.

TCU is a better job if he can leverage a raise at worst a lateral move. Patterson has more of a chance making it to a BCS bowl at TCU than he has at Minnesota.

The chance of Patterson leaving TCU to become Minnesota's head
coach is tantamount to that of the proverbial snowball in hell. You
might as well reconcile yourself to the fact that Patterson will be with
the Frogs for a long time to come.

Patterson is currently working out a contract extension with our administration to make him "one of the higher paid coaches in the country."

Why? They don't have Golden Corrals in Minnesota?

Their wallets are much much bigger than ours based on the decision to keep PB

TCU would have to offer Gary something around/over $2 million a year for him to be one of the highest paid coaches in CFB. He is not worth that much.

Yes, Saban, Carr, Carroll, Stoops, Brown, Weis, Meyer, and Tressel all make over 2 mil per year.
