Once home to S.M.U. football and the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Stadium will become a thing of the past after the 'Pokes move in to their new stadium in Arlington.

Irving officials have announced a $2 billion urban district project which would include a DART rail station, hotels, civic buildings, residences and a park above State Highway 114 on the current site of Texas Stadium.

Projected completion date of the project is 2022, with the first phase due to be completed in 2012.

Yea. I hate Texas Stadium. It was built quick and cheap. I hated it when we played there and I hated it everytime I attended a Cowboy or High School playoff game.

I once heard an interesting statement for development of software, and it is a statement that applies to any development. "You can have it quick, good or cheap, pick any two." So if it is quick and cheap, it isn't good. If it is quick and good, it isn't cheap. If it is cheap and good, it isn't quick.

Thanks for the breakdown there at the end. I would have never been able to follow the previously mentioned "pick any two".

A real good place to watch a football game. Although the Texas Stadium Corp. let it get run down and really DIRTY over the last decade or so (just like Irving), it was quite a cash cow for Jerry. For the 30+ years it has been in existence, nothing was ever developed out there (except Webb's Bar & Grill on the service road south of the stadium). Central Freight, remnants of the old multi-screen drive in the the parking lot, and mesquite trees... kinda tells you what Irving is all about.

Actually, the University of Dallas' proposal for the GWB Library put it on land not too far from Texas Stadium.
