Statement from Bill Parcells
"I am retiring from coaching football. I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here.
"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time. I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard. "

I'll delete this thread later, after admonishing myself for posting something that has nothing to do with SMU.
Wait -- Parcells is a big fan of the great Keylon Kincade.
There you go. Headline should read: KEYLON KINCADE'S COACH RETIRING

Maybe Jones will look at Todd Dodge to take over. After all, he was a god at Southlake Carroll...
...Picking up on the sarcasm??
...Good, 'cause I'm laying it on pretty thick.

It will be interesting. Just as some of the openings have been filled this one comes up. You wonder if Parcells timed this to make it harder for Jones to fill the job. I guess Jones will start by interviewing the usual suspects like Norv Turner and go from there.

Looking back, maybe several of the assistants leaving was the writing on the wall. I would hate to see Norv back again unless he was...wait a minute, I'm having a thought here...Jimmy Johnson comes back, Norv runs the offense, Wannstedt the D, Avezzano on special teams...It's like '92-'93 all over again!!!
I'll wake up from that dream soon enough I'm sure

I think it's clear that Parcells is just retiring in order to be front-runner for the SMU job opening up in 2008.

I think Parcells and Rick Flair are related. They look like they could be brothers. Maybe he and the Tuna will team up for a tag team.

No, he's recovering from hand surgery and still pulling an enormous check. (Although the owner is right there with him....)

I loved that Parcells never gave Dale Hansen the time of day
