Since SMU doesn't have athletes that actually play in the NFL any more-this will have to do:

That was an SMU grad holding that SMU-grad-named AFC Championship trophy

Just noting that on Sunday Jim Irsay, who played football for the 1978 Mustangs and graduated in 1982, held up the Lamar Hunt Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the AFC championship game. Hunt (class of '56) founded the American Football League and came up with the name, "Super Bowl." He died this past December.

Here's a photo of Irsay with the trophy, from the Colts' site today:

In the fall of 2006, Irsay created a scholarship at SMU for Indiana students. Irsay Scholars receive a four-year, full tuition scholarships with room and board.

This AFC trophy thing is obviously an omen that one day soon the Mustangs will win the BCS.

No, this is just proof that SMU can still win in a league where you can pay your players.
