dont get me wrong! he is strong and it is a lot of weight...but that 2-3 inches above parrellel, makes all the difference in the world...if he would have hit parrellel...it would have crushed him. They never should have let him attempt that.....but i still love ya vic

What you didn't see on video was a bench press max of 450, and a clean max of 350 by Charlie. By the way, that squat was an SMU football record.

bench is not impressive. good but who cares about bench...clean was decent..should be up near the 400 mark though (vic will get him there).......sorry pal...660 is not the smu record....Jon Jost did not keep accurate records when he was there...squat max is close to 700 and that guy and those in the weight room that afternoon know who he is. a kid did 645 hurt his back...and then came in late that afternoon while a few more guys were testing. He threw up close to 700 and got it for one rep. Jost came out and said it didnt count cause he didnt lift it during his lifting time!!!!! what a joke of a coach!

And charlie's squat was NOT parrallel! close, about 3 inches off...parrallel is when the hip join lines up with the knee cap. if you look closely and know how to judge it...he is 3 inch high...BUT! Good for charlie! strong kid....stick with vic!!! he is a great strength coach....but im suprised he let that kid get away with that squat...

450 is in fact impressive. I am aware that bench is not the most important lift for a football player, but if no one cared about it they would not do it at every combine known to man. The bench is a good measure of upper body strength. As for a 350 pound clean, that is also outstanding by anyone's standards and should be near the best on the team. Finally, go ahead and critique his squat as much as you want, but his is the only one on video tape that would allow you to do that. It was a legit squat. As for the record being somewhere around 700 pounds, 660 is darn close to 700 especially in a lift like the squat.

We get it dude, you don't think the squat was legal. A larger amount of weight than I'd ever care rest on my shoulders was squatted and you're gonna bust his balls for being an inch or two short? We know you're a strength coach and do it for a living, but for those of us that don't particularly concern our day-to-day with parallel status, don't try to make this about some questionable record three people witnessed. Whatever Jost was, he never was the kind of person to prevent someone from due recognition. There are two sides to the story.

Nice job Charlie on the lift, but thank you for your dedication to getting your priorities in line and rejoining a football team that can utilize your newfound maturity and perspective.
