SMU
Realistic best case record with this schedule: 9-3
Barring total disaster worst case record: 4-8
Realistic record: 7-5
It's not easy. The Mustangs have the three worst Conference USA road games you can get going to Southern Miss, Tulsa and Houston in a title-dream killing midseason stretch of three away dates in four weeks. While North Texas and Arkansas State help ease up the non-conference slate, playing Texas Tech and going to TCU means a 2-2 start is likely. There can't be any slips in home games against Tulane, Rice and UCF if the Mustangs want to go to a bowl.
SMU
Sept. 3 Texas Tech
Sept. 8 North Texas (almost certain win)
Sept. 15 at Arkansas State
Sept. 22 at TCU
Sept. 29 UTEP
Oct. 13 at Southern Miss
Oct. 20 Tulane
Oct. 27 at Tulsa
Nov. 4 at Houston
Nov. 10 Rice
Nov. 17 UCF
Nov. 24 at Memphis

OK, to be fair, I added that, but just to follow up on their coding of those pages. They highlighted a game for every team as an "almost certain win" -- North Texas was it this year, but when I copied it, the highlighting didn't carry over.

they think we also have the hardest schedule in the west and they realistically put us at 7-5, i'd say that's a little respect we've never had before.

Sad to say but I would be happy with 7-5

Except this is on the Tech analysis:
"The non-conference schedule is a typical Texas tech waste of time playing at SMU, UTEP, at Rice and Northwestern State."
And they predict us to likely loss to Tech on Tech's schedule.

This is a tough one. I can almost see another o-fer in the making as a worst case scenario. We could easily start off 0-4, if not worse. If the D comes around we might, in a best case scanario, go 7-5 but I doubt it, more like 5-7. Maybe I'll feel better after Saturday.

I figure we'll beat ASU, UNT, Rice, Tulane, Memphis and UCF. Toss-ups UTEP and Tulsa. Probably losses, TT, TCU, USM, UH. Now we are fully capable of stepping on our Johnsons and lose a probable win and win a probable loss. So 7-5 is realistic. If everything goes really well 9-3. To be 5-7, we'd really have to get upset and not win any of the toss-up games.

yes.. this could be very sunshiney.. but I think the Tech game is a bit of a toss-up honestly. Yes.. I know Harrell is back with Shannon Woods.. but they've lost Johnson, Filani and Hicks. If our D can put it together.. I see SMU with the best chance to upset Tech in years. That's only if we show up and Tech is stumbling a bit.. but I'm more optimistic about this game than the one against TCU.

Does no one remember how porous our secondary was last year?

I think both games are just as likely to turn out as wins. If I had to choose, I'd want to beat Tech. Break that nasty big-12 streak we have going on. But I still hope we win them both.

One thing to keep in mind is that Tech is almost completely replacing their O-line and D-line.

If they weren't a BCS school I would count that in our favor, but I doubt that Tech has a dearth of linemen. I'm sure they have ample capable players to fill the holes.
