Did you notice in the Martin article that Givens is dropping out of school for a semester and going to summer school in order to be eligible in the fall. Good luck. I hope he makes it. We need some capable receivers.

He did not have meningitis, but something similar or related. I am more concerned with his mental health, hoping that he dedicates himself to the books in the summer so he can be on the field in the fall.

Ok I see your point
Receiver Columbus Givens, who missed most of spring practice after becoming infected with the bacteria that causes meningitis, will withdraw from school this semester.

Football aside, here's hoping for a return to full health.
And THEN a healthy return to the field! Get better, Columbus.

Please do not think I am downplaying the illness. It was my understanding from earlier information that he was not as bad as had been worried and a full relatively quick recovery was expected. I just want him back at full speed asap.

Is it solely due to the illness, or is there another issue, i.e. did his grades drop because he was so sick he couldn't study, or was he having problems with grades, then got sick which compounded everything. I hope it was the former, I would think that would be easier to recover from that issue.

If I had to guess, think is strictly related to his illness pretty much isolating him from the world for a week. It's a serious illness, and I think withdrawing for it is understandable (since he can still become eligible for the fall). Maybe he'll get to spend more time in the weightroom (now that they aren't in spring practice).

2 easy summer classes and he is ready for the fall. Always loved the way summer classes improved my GPA.

I guess that is the antithesis of Dead Man Walking?
