Because of NCAA sanctions, their press literature cannot mention that Ohio State went to the the Final Four in 1999. Therefore, it has been mentioned that this is their first final four since 1968 by the national media.

It must really suck for Ohio State. Under former coach Jim O'Brien, they where found guilty of paying players and now they can't mention their 1999 final four appearance because of it. The NCAA really showed them! Lets not even mention what Mauricie Clarett said about their football program on national TV was much worse than David Stanley ever said about SMU football on national TV.

Ohio State has cheated in both mens's football and basketball worse than anybody else, and yet they are in the national title game for both sports.

I guess what I'm trying to say that it sucks being a fan and alumni of the only university that the NCAA ever stood up to. Sure, you can blame Pye because we certainly could have been back by 1991 if he cared about athletics. Larry Johnson coming to SMU would have changed the course of our Basketball progam and if we had the same admission standards as the rest of our southwest conference foes , football would not be where it is today......man, we got hosed by the NCAA and then Pye.....no new news here, but it SUCKS

Hopefully we have moved past this. Yes there are lingering effects.

Actually, if Larry Johnson had come to SMU, then Dave Bliss might have stayed, and SMU might have been the only program to ever get the death penalty in both football and men's hoops....

You are sooooooooo correct JT. Dave Bliss was asked to leave by the university before the NCAA sanctioned the BB program.
