A "Keep The Red Out" White Out?

I got the season ticket brochure yesterday and noticed an interesting disclaimer on the order form:

"Individual game tickets will go on sale Aug. 1 with the exception of the Texas Tech game which will go on sale to the public Aug. 8 to allow more SMU fans the opportunity to purchase tickets and keep the red out of Ford Stadium!"

Maybe the fans and Mustangs will be wearing white that day...

Anybody else notice this?

Except for the wording, I think that's a good idea, or at least in the spirit of the good idea. With all of his marketing genius, Mr. Sweet needs to do whatever he can to improve the likely 9:1 TT to SMU fan ration on Labor Day.

I think that's stupid. Sell the damn seats. People can't make travel plans if they are unsure of tickets plus its going to be televised. SMU fans likely won't come anyway and they especially won't buy them early if they think it won't be a sellout. Watch for a depressed attendance.

Tech has white in its uniform, too.
Wear BLUE.

"Keep the Red Out", or something to that effect, would be good... especially at 3:00 p.m. White jerseys for the team, too. Definitely cooler. Plus, I like the LSU home-team-in-white concept. The sorority girls can feel comfortable, also, since it is on Labor Day and they won't be breaking any fashion laws. However, it is always a terrific PHOTO OP for our recruiting brochures, posters and athletic department propaganda to have a Ford Stadium full of red-clad fans. A recruit can look at one of those photos and say, "Golly, they have lots of fans!" Now, if we could ever OUTNUMBER Tech fans, I'd say do it.

Well, at least they didn't call them by their other primary color. We would have been in some serious trouble then

I think that trying to keep the red out is a bad idea. If we were moving lots of tickets to begin with, this would work. But we don't. There are tons of people in the Metroplex who graduated from that degree mill in Lubbock. I imagine that they are going to show up in force for the game.

Discouraging people from wearing Red is only going to highlight the poor attendence by Ponyfans. We'll look even worse than we are too, since not everyone will get the memo, and not everyone who did will comply. So there will be SMU Red in the stands, but for all appearances, they'll be lumped in with the Raitards.

It's going to be bad enough having a Tech Crowd making noise, adding the visiual disparity to the dynamic just seems like a bad idea. I think they may as well encourage red to mask the problem, then hope the team can quiet the Tech fans with their play on the field.

We are setting ourselves up for Failure here.

I think this is a bad idea. Tech will have more fans there than we do. Us wearing white will only make it obvious. We should wear red so that we can spin the numbers difference to whatever we want it to be.

I think maybe the athletic dept. is hoping Tech fans who can't/won't wait will plunk down $$ for season tickets to ensure themselves of a seat. I know several Frog season tickets were sold to Tech fans last year for the same reason.

We ought to encourage tech fans to wear red and our fans to wear blue. Then take a picture of the full stadium, with 1/2 red and 1/2 blue. People won't know from the photo that the red people weren't chearing for us, we can still use it for publicity stuff.

I know TT fans from Lubbock who won't be making the trip because of the late start time. Maybe we can fill up Ford ourselves. I doubt it but but it's a nice thought.

I would imagine there are enough TT fans in Dallas to fill Ford.

the problem is that it won't be 50% except in Ponyfans rose colored glasses. Tech will have 18-20,000 and SMU will have 12-14,000 just like always

That's good enough, as long as it's "paid" attendance. And leave that "Goin' Band from Raider Land" at home.
