YES! YES! YES!Logo returns to collegiate roots
Mark Norris, Editor In Chief, [email protected] Issue date: 4/13/07 Section: Sports It's out with the new and in with the old for SMU's logos for athletics. Focus groups conducted with students and alumni concluded that both groups wanted a traditional approach to the logos for SMU's teams. Accordingly, the current SMU block letters are out and a more collegiate style block is in. Rest of the story: http://media.www.smudailycampus.com/med ... 9984.shtml
Is any story/reporting coming out of the DC believable? When, exactly, is an official school color "official"? That's what's so screwy about SMU... somebody new moves into an office in the athletic department and there is "official" new everything. Screw the committees and the focus groups (hand-picked puppets)... decide on something and stick with it. Did the navy blue not look good on Muffie's grandmother? I guess this is one way to sell shirts, personalized jerseys and stuff... change the colors and the logos every two years. Guess this will last at least 8-9 months until we have a new football coach (who will probably prefer Carolina Blue).

Mark Norris of the DC nailed this one, and beat everyone - us, the DMN, everyone - to it.
And he's right. The arched logo is a thing of the past. More traditional lettering and more prominent use of the Mustang logo is coming back.
Yeah, I can't wait to read this "story" in the DMN. Go get'em, Kate.
We all know the DMN isn't going to touch this. Maybe a one-line note in the season preview next year, but even that's unlikely. The fact is that the DC pursued an idea about which many PonyFans have expressed significant concern (remember the outcry here when that logo was adopted?) before anyone else and got an official answer. A lot of folks are quick to complain about the DC, and in this case, the DC deserves credit.
That seems a touch uncalled for...and they seemed to nail this one and pretty much every Bush Library story out there
That's exactly why they did it. There are so many things that the athletic department sends out that are different colors and logos, now everything will be branded the same way
The thing that impresses me the most is the fact that he took the time to organize focus groups of both students and alumni to figure out what was the most popular. Richard Sweet does his research. I would expect a very successful, very aggressive advertising campaign over the summer and into the fall to get the DFW area interested, or even aware, that SMU has a football team and the exciting atmosphere that developing around the Hilltop.
If you recall, that is EXACTLY what was said (by the athletic department) last time. Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna buy new shirts, caps, decals and all the stuff that promotes SMU. That is not the issue. But these changes occur frequently with the edict: "This is the way it is going to be now and forevermore." It's whichever way the wind blows.
Yeah, plus that editor guy was AT the Playboy shoots, giving new meaning to hard journalism.
Actually he was at the audition shootings...and it's a different editor-in-chief now
