Why did he transfer after his freshman year?
He played 3 years at SMU.
Him and Cavan didn't see eye to eye so he left. Played his SR season at SHSU. Cavan always seemed to like the incoming Freshman he recruited better than the current starter. Sanders (FR) over Flannigan (5th year Sr) McCown (FR) over Sanders (Soph) Luker (FR) over McCown (Jr) I could be off on those years some, but that is the general idea.

"According to the Detroit News, the Lions did not have QB Josh McCown present Tuesday for the start of a three-day voluntary mini-camp. McCown has asked to be traded because he doesn't see an opportunity behind starter Jon Kitna, who took every snap in 2006 and has been named the starter for 2007 by coach Rod Marinelli. There have been reports the Raiders are interested in McCown. Oakland has the first pick in the draft and is likely to take LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell."
