Why Did McCown Transfer to SHSU?

I know that Josh McCown played his freshman year hear under Cavan, and then after that transfered to Sam Houston State, and wound up being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals.

Why did he transfer after his freshman year?

Because there were no more openings in Kellen Luker's band.

He played 3 years at SMU.

Him and Cavan didn't see eye to eye so he left. Played his SR season at SHSU.

Cavan always seemed to like the incoming Freshman he recruited better than the current starter.

I could be off on those years some, but that is the general idea.

Fair enough. I had wondered if it was academic troubles, or he didn't like the way the program was going, or got into other off the field trouble and had to transfer to keep playing football.

McCown was actually sharing snaps with David Page in 2000 and then in 2001 David Page shared snaps with Luker, which turned out to be disastrous.

Tarleton State - Ran for a 2-yard score and connected on 14 of 16 attempts (87.5 percent) for 224 yards, including 3 touchdowns.

Northern Illinois - Threw for 318 yards on 25 of 38 chances with a 6-yard score to tight end Keith Heinrich.

Mississippi Valley - Had touchdown tosses of 7 yards to Brian Null and 29 yards to Cooper.

"According to the Detroit News, the Lions did not have QB Josh McCown present Tuesday for the start of a three-day voluntary mini-camp. McCown has asked to be traded because he doesn't see an opportunity behind starter Jon Kitna, who took every snap in 2006 and has been named the starter for 2007 by coach Rod Marinelli. There have been reports the Raiders are interested in McCown. Oakland has the first pick in the draft and is likely to take LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell."
