A New Tradition

Ok, so here me out. I was watching a youtube video of the Virginia Tech entrance to their football games and it got me thinking. SMU needs to start a tradition for their entrances that get the crowd so pumped up. I am sick of the band lined up playing the fight song. Yea its a great song, but its not inspiring. Nobody claps when they enter. Most of that reason is because SMU isn't that good, but what about something like this...
If we could get a good sized crowed (this new marketing guy better have a plan to fill the seats), then we should start out each game by having everyone start chanting "SMU...SMU...SMU" while the band and cheerleaders line up from the entrance. As we're chanting SMU, the PA guy fires up some song that will pump the [deleted] out of everyone (like Metallica's "Enter Sandman", although not the same song but something similar that builds up to awesomeness). How crazy would that be?! Just sitting there, then all of a sudden the fake Peruna rolls up as the band and cheerleaders take their places...Peruna slowly calms everyone down then leads the chant with some arm motions so everyone knows when to say it, then out of nowhere the music blares over the speakers, everyone starts going nuts and out comes the football players from the tunnel. Ideally while this is happening, the other team is crapping their pants because of the intimidation.
Just a thought...let the anger from this thread flow about how we already have tradition blah blah blah.

the only new tradition that SMU needs is a winning tradition. Win games consistently over several seasons and you won't need any gimmicky "let's get pumped up" new tradition. Now if anyone has any ideas about how to win consistently...

I won't vent anger thank you, I would merely state this is probably the dumbest idea I have yet to read on this board. Did you ever stop to think first, that if the stands were filled, the fight song might just be inspirational. Second, this appears to be just another attempt to do away with the "real" Peruna. Third, we have 6 home games a year. I guess we need to fill them all up every game and have what, two or three years until everyone gets the hang of doing your thing. Fourth, find a PA person that can solicit that fire in a one or two line sentence. And fifth , drink one (a fifth that is) and go back to number one on the list. A full stadium is what pumps people up. Like the old puzzle, "If Metallica played and no one was there, would they make any noise?"

I thought all Metallica did was make noise.

I think I'd give the credit to the 70,000 fans leaping in unison and shouting their lungs out credit for the atmosphere. Even though i do love Metallica.

i agree a better entrance would generate a little more excitement... my high school had a better entrance, but we actually won games, and played in front of bigger crowds then SMU

Are you even at the game when the team runs out? I think the production that is in place is pretty good. It gets me excited. It's just too bad that I'm only one of 100 people in the stadium when that happens.
By the way, I hate it when people say, "Let's do this," and they want to call it a new tradition (oxymoron). I'm fine with trying new things out (when it's a good idea), but let's just call it that. A tradition isn't a tradition until it has been established. Ask the aggies...I don't like it, but at least they know what tradition is.

How about we actually have a Metallica concert at half time and after the game and in order to attend you have to attend the game..... oh and bring back the Noid.... That mustang Maniac was the worse conceived promotion in modern history.
