Check it this video of the SMU Band at the 1982 game versus Arkansas. Is it me, or was our band bigger back then?

An un-named source told me that the band is going to have close to 100 band members this fall...up about 40% to 50% from last year.

Gawd, I hope so. I love our band, but I've always wished they'd have more members out there. When the size goes up (i.e. Homecoming, with the boost from alumni), they sound fantastic.

That would be "96 guys and a Doll" - just 3 off - not bad.

Around 85. The current band directors would like to have around 112 members. The Diamond M Club and The Mustang Band Partnership are trying to raise funds for new facilities and scholarships to help the band grow.

For more information visit www.smubandpartnership.com or call 214-SMU-BAND.

Loved watching these videos, especially seeing the "crowd size". Thanks. Those were the days, huh?

Yeah, and if we could just go back to the sped up version of Peruna when the team is driving... those were the days.

Good idea. I remember, there were some classic drives to the sounds of a speedy Peruna. Hadn't heard it in so long, almost forgot.

Yep... you can actually hear the sped up version on that clip linked within the youtube smu video to start the weekend thread. It's at the end of the clip that it comes through nice and clear.

I agree that would be great, but it is now against NCAA rules for the band to play after the team breaks the huddle and before the snap. Unfortunately, SMU runs a no huddle offense, so the band can not play after the ball is set and before the snap. So how can you play Peruna during an offensive drive?

I think the rule is stupid. The rule should read that your band can not play while the opposing team is on offense.
