Bill Forester, SMU and Woodrow standout

Postby Bergermeister » Mon Apr 30, 2007 3:36 pm

I'll go ahead and fill in for MrMustang in the obit category (just this time). Bill Forester, aged 74, passed away Friday morning. He was captain of the 1952 Mustangs and an All-SWC lineman from Woodrow Wilson. He was a third-round draft pick of the Packers and won two championships under Vince Lombardi. He was named to 4 Pro Bowls. He retired in 1963. He is a member of the Packer Hall of Fame and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. His older brother, Herschel, also played for SMU and the Browns. Their dad, Herschel Forester, was the coach at Woodrow where he coached Heisman winner Davey O'Brien. Forester Field (DISD) is named in his honor. He was a lifelong fan of the Mustangs.

Thanks for posting. Another great Mustang has past on. I meet him after he was diagnosis with Parkinson's. He seems to handle this devastating disease with grace. My sympathies to his family and his wonderful wife. She was pleasant and gracious every time I saw them.

Very sad news. I met he and his wife at a letterman function, and she was one of the nicest people I have ever met. We had a very nice long conversation, and she took me over to meet Mr. Forester, which was a great honor. I am certainly glad to have met him and hope to visit his wife again sometime.
