Per the Dmn:

Breaking news from Brian Davis: Texas Tech and Okie State are close to an agreement to bring their football rivalry to the Cotton Bowl on an annual basis.

This would a great move by the Red Raiders and Pokes. Both programs need to get their fair share of recruits from the Dallas area to have a chance to compete with the Big 12 big boys, and this would be a tremendous step in that direction.

The game won't get Texas-OU kind of love, but it will get major play in our paper and on the local TV stations. It will also allow recruits to get a feel for the Tech/Okie State programs without making four- or five-hour trips.

Tech had been trying for some time to get A&M to agree to this kind of deal. This is a case of the Aggies (who, by the way, are also scrapping to try to compete with the Big 12 big boys) being a bit too big for their own britches.

Baylor is well into negotiations to play Notre Dame in JerryWorld next decade. That would give every Big 12 South team but A&M a game in this market. That's not a good thing if you say, "Gig 'Em."

Guessing if/once the games get going Texas Tech, Okie State, and Baylor won't want to play us anymore. Shame, really wanted to play Baylor every year.

These games simply show our irrelevance in the college football world. It's like we don't even exist.

As for the Aggies, they don't want a game in Dallas and I don't blame them. This is not their home field. College Station is only a 3 hour drive from Dallas. If you haven't seen a game there you can't understand how passionate the Aggies are about playing at home. They don't want to give up that kind of atmosphere to play in the Cotton Bowl.

THANK YOU - that's EXACTLY what I was thinking! I understand the schools' desire to play the game here (and it surely will be a treat to welcome those fans to Dallas), but is there anyone - even in Stillwater or Lubbock - who considers that a "rivalry"?

Why is Notre Dame wanting to play Baylor here instead of us? We are an easier win for them. Their game in the 1940's with SMU is still one that has an epic quality about it. Orsini and Doh have ties to ND. If Baylor gets a deal done with ND, and we don't, that will be the first huge black mark on the Orsini report card. Orsini better call in all his chits on this one.

I think if these other schools get deals for Dallas, the Aggies know they have a game under contract with SMU. If they want to move our game with them at Ford to Jerry World, and let us keep the gate that would be something worth considering.

Guessing they would rather beat a BCS big 12 school then a mid-major cusa school. They get nothing for beating us.

I guess Baylor just wants another drubbing. No way will they Beat ND. It is simply a paydaay for them and a recruiting trip for ND.

Yeah, ND always ends up with a really easy schedule so they end up ranked in the top 10 when it comes time to play SC - and it's typically a drubbing for the irish. Then they get destroyed in their bowl game and everyone remembers again how overrated they are year in and year out.
