Boys will be boys

I had a veteran SMU footballer relate this story to me recently.

In the early 50s, three SMU football players went duck hunting. They didn't have a successful hunt and shot absolutely nothing. On their way back to campus, they decided that their duck hunting location was the problem. They just didn't have a good hunting hole. Well, this discussion lead to a brainstorming session to identify the best place to hunt ducks. They decided to try duck hunting on Turtle Creek and went there instead of back to campus.

The story goes, as they hunted along the bank with full hunting gear and a retriever, that a woman come out of her rather large home all a frantic over their hunting at Turtle Creek. The 3 players eventually heeded her cries and plead to stop hunting and ended their hunt (supposedly with their limit).

The poor story teller was in tears laugh during the explanation of the woman so I couldn't understand all the particular details of that story.

Yes names were named but I will not relay the names as this is a completely unconfirmed tale. But I wish I had been there to witness this hunt
:o

A friend of mine, an SMU grad several years ahead of me told me a similar story.
During his senior year, as an avid duck hunter, he and his fraternity brother would go hunting every weekend.
A couple of underclassmen were returning every morning with a full limit.
In an effort to find out where they were hunting, they placed a bet on which pair could get their limits and return to the fraternity house. They then had a pledge wait outside the next Saturday morning.
After their hunt, they settled their bets, they lost, and eagerly awaited the report from the pledge.
The pledge related the following story:
"About 4:30 AM I saw the two of you leave for your hunt. I waited and waited and the other two didn't even leave until almost 7:00 AM. They had their regular school clothes and no shotguns. I followed them over to Turtle Creek, where they got out a sack of stale bread and an air pistol and proceeded to get their limits in greenheads and return to the house to wait to collect their bets!"
