Conference USA (C-USA) has reached an agreement with the Texas Bowl, giving the league “six guaranteed bowl slots, up from five last year.†C-USA will face an opponent from the Big 12 in the bowl game, which is played at Reliant Stadium (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 5/17).

this really is just old repackaged news. Its the reason that I previously commented that SMU might have a better shot at a bowl than it does for a winning season. All we have to do is define average and we're going bowling. That would be so appropriate for SMU's first bowl game in 22 years.

And your comment is so typical of the crap you've been spewing ever since you started posting.
We're in a different world of college football -- whether we like it or not. Apparently, you're still living in 1981.

Six bowls for CUSA in 2007 has been known for some time. IMO, it was a big part of the reason Bennett kept his job. They liked their odds of finishing in the top half of C-USA better with Bennett as opposed to during a "rebuilding year" with somebody new.

Is there some way to mark this post?
If you turn out to be right, I'm going to start taking your posts much more seriously.

this may get me branded a sunshiner, but if we had a good year and finished in the cusa top 3, we might go to a pretty good bowl. where might that put us? bowl-wise? let's not lock on to that number 6 bowl before a game is played.

geez, I remember last year all the bowl guarantees and all the "bennett will be fired, I guarantee it" posts. So how can YOU personally guarantee it?

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why do they put a guarantee on a box? Hmm, very interesting.
Ted: I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's how I see it. A guy puts a guarantee on the box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.
Ted: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Ya think if you leave that box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter.
Ted: What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the Guarantee Fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, but we're not buying it. Next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.
Ted: But why do they put a guarantee on the box then?
Tommy: Because they know all they solda ya was a guaranteed piece of shi-t. That's all it is. Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for right now, for your sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality item from me.
Ted: Hmm. Okay, I'll buy from you.
Tommy: Well I... What?

We all have been disappointed many times over the years. But I guess I can guarantee this. If we don't go to a bowl this year, PhirePhilBennett will be a happy camper and will have to change his moniker to PhinallyPhiredPhilBennett.
