No kidding.
It's hard to believe when Dallas goes looking for a college football matchup to host, it includes everybody BUT hometown SMU.
This happens no where else in the country.

Raplh, you lived in Houston. I know you love the place but many others do not.

When Laura Miller calls UTEP, I'm gonna have to say something.

SMU needs to pack Ford before they can start thinking of hosting a big non-conference game in the Cotton Bowl or Jerry World (New Cowboys Stadium) down the road.

It should be a top priority of the new administration to work towards changing the fact that we aren't even warranted as an athletic afterthought in OUR own city. It is completely unacceptable and damned embarassing, even in the current state of athletics.

Yeah Baylor travels real well to Dallas. Tell me about that huge sellout when we played Baylor at Ford. Oh it wasn't, my bad. Come on ND vs. SMU, Kyle Rote, Knute Rockne. A game of historic proportions. And Orsini went to ND. Strike One for Mr. O.

SMU is not a draw. The general citizenry and SMU alums in the Metroplex do not embrace Mustang football. They prove, year-in and year-out, that they're not going to attend football or basketball games. They didn't go to the Cotton Bowl (well, maybe in '47 and '48), didn't go to Ownby, and they don't go to Ford. SMU is not Dallas' "hometown team."

we are too busy scheduling Arkansas St., Sam Houston St. and Stephen F. Austin. This is what the SMU fans said they wanted so we could pretend to be a bowl team. Fight for Relevance!

Interesting twist:
Notre Dame wants this to count as a home (read: NBC) game, thereby getting even more money out of it. Baylor agreed, just happy to get a showcase pummeling (er .... "game") on national TV.
But now the Big 12 has stepped in, claiming it owns the TV rights to games played on a neutral field in what is considered a Big 12-heavy viewing area (i.e. the state of Texas), and therefore claims it owns the rights to this game. Hmmm .... overrated conference taking on NCAA's favorite sons .... stay tuned.

Atleast we saw some blow out wins though...that was fun for a couple of seconds until you realized it was Arkansas State and Sam Houston..

Personally, I'd rather play crappy teams to make us look good and draw recruits, thus building the program slowly, instead of playing a ND team that would beat us easily and go down in flames on national TV. just my opinion.

Hopefully the Big XII and ND will get into a urinating contest and cancel the whole deal. I suspect that Notre Dame doesn't want to play us on CSTV or ESPN, either and if it was a home game for us that would be an issue. And you know that ESPN/ABC would not waive any rights to such a game. I love this brave new world of TV don't you?
