Doesn't make sense that the best of the mid-majors form a super conference and then demand BCS status? It seems that such a conference would need to be 16 schools instead of 12 schools. My ideal mid-major conference is:
East
SMU
TCU
Houston
So Miss
Central Florida
Memphis
East Carolina
Marshall (or Tulsa)
West
BYU
Utah
UTEP
New Mexico
UNLV
Wy.
Boise State
Hawaii (or Fresno State)
Colo. State
AustinTX

You have entirely too much free time.

I kind of like it. No Hawaii, though.

You have nine teams in the west division. Strike Wyoming and let's have Fresno State instead of Hawai'i. Then I think you've got something.
I'd like to get Miami (OH) in there too, but I just don't see a slot to put them into where it wouldn't weaken the conference.

Dump Central Fla and Marshall for Vandy and Miss. State, too. Then you got something.
That's right, raid the SEC.

I think they tried that before...they called it the WAC (16)
not until the worst of the worst of the worst became the now WAC did they become the BEST non-BCS conference...
Why not have the WAC and MWC play a playoff and get a BCS slot, and the MAC and CUSA champs play into a BCS spot.

Correct, and it didn't work. Rivalries are watered down, the conference is too spread out to focus on things like regional TV deals and regional bowl games, etc.

Not one MAC team?
No. Illinois is 49-25 over last six seasons with 3 bowls and no losing seasons.
Miami (Ohio) has two losing seasons since 1990.

I like Miami more than No. Illinois. That would be a beautful road trip to take for a game in late September and October. They have one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. Plus, they have more of a football legacy. A quick sampling of their former football coaches or assistants: Blaik, Paul Brown, Hayes, Schembechler, Parseghian, Tressel, Dietzel, and current New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton.

With our record, I suspect we'd be left out of any mid-major Super Conference.

I really like this playoff idea. Now I'm not fan of the current BCS BS system, but this looks like a plausable idea that fits the current mold that the BCS catrel agrees to.
BCS would like it: 1 or 2 extra BCS bowl games ($$$).
Fans would like it: extra quality games in January, give a shot to mid majors.
Everyone would like it: Beginnings of a playoff system that everyone could like, or at least tolerate.

that is possibly the dumbest thing I have read. Why would Vandy and Miss St. leave the SEC for some Mid-Major super conf.? The SEC also wouldn't allow it either b/c they'd loose their conf. championship game.

I don't know about you but I'd prefer to make a stop in Chicago on the way to Dekalb.
