R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Dec. 21 / 8 p.m. New Orleans, La. ESPN2
Tie-Ins: Sun Belt No. 1 vs. C-USA
Way Too Early Projection: Troy vs. SMU
Top 5 Others Considered: 1. Middle Tennessee, 2. UL Lafayette, 3. Houston, 4. Marshall, 5. East Carolina

Well, it going to a bowl is the goal, this prediction is not too glamorous. If we got this bid, would anybody go?

I'd like to think that I'd be at SMU's first bowl game since '84 if it's in the middle of Antartica

I would be there regardless of how unglamorous the bowl is.

Including a rematch of UNT vs. SMU? Mustangs try to avenge their Sept. 8 loss to the Mean Green?

Did somebody bump this thread up from last preseason?

This thread is like a punch in the balls. First bowl in 20+ years and people are whining that it might not be a glamorous bowl. I am so sick of the alternating "Oh woe is us!" and "Our [deleted] doesn't stink" attitude of some of the people here.

Cmon it's New Orleans during a holiday season and there's college football. Even if it's the Sun Belt, look at the poastives man!

Hey folks, I had an absolute blast in NOLA last year when we played Tulane. Damnit if I don't think we can make a run for the conference championship this season - and of course I do. We're closer than we have been in a while.

Regardless.... if the Bowl is in NOLA - I am there with bells on. Seriously, how can you not have a blast in New Orleans? And seriously, it's a bowl... any bowl would do (and don't get me wrong, I'd hope to play for the National Championship, but that ain't possible - at all - this year, we'd have to go undefeated for two/three years in a row, for there to even be a chance.... so any bowl will do at this point, got to crawl before you can walk, then wlk before you can run).

Please not the Sun Belt

After playing, and hopefully beating UNT and Aransas State, a Sun Belt match-up in a bowl game just doesn't have much box office appeal for the sponsoring bowl people or maybe us either. SMU has not been a good traveling team for ticket sales. Consequently, when we get a bowl invitation, the host bowl will want us to play an appealing opponent who will help sell tickets. The business side of bowl games will almost surely require that SMU win the West to insure that we get a good post-season game. Another 6-6 season is not going to take us very far. A 7-5 season will get us a game, but not with an appealing opponent (as if we are such a star attraction). When we do go to a bowl, the media will try to sell the game as coming back from the dead. I'd like to think the appeal would be because we have an exciting offense with our QB helping score an average of 30 points a game. Let's get through September at least 2-2 and the rest will take care of itself.

Holy cow, you're demanding. I think if we ever get the chance to play Valdosta State in the Hi-C Punchbowl we ought to be turning cartwheels.
Is V-State even D-1? Aw hell, like it matters.

Half of C-USA goes bowling in 2007. Decent chance a .500 team gets in.

You remind me of my girlfriend in lawschool before I started dating my wife. Quit being a whiny bi-yutch and be thankful you aren't sitting at home on Friday night watching old "Practice" reruns eating ice cream and getting fat.

SMU has not been a good HOME team for ticket sales. I would think any bowl would cringe to have to take us. I guess you could play up the "1st bowl game post-death penalty" bit for the curiosity/freak factor, but otherwise we're talkin' a bowl venue with the Ford look --- lots of empty seats.
