Forgotten man?

Postby PonyFan » Wed Jun 20, 2007 1:36 pm

Much has been written here -- and rightly so -- about the defensive line, and how Haywood, Bonds and Rogers will be replaced. At the defensive end spots, we all know Muse is a stud, and a lot of good things have been written about Patrick Handy, Adrian Dizer, Justin Smart, etc. .... but the guy who many (myself included on the Report Card thread) is Jordan Johnson. Guy is big (6-3, 245), strong and fast, and last year Coach Bennett said he was doing extremely well in practice against our first-team OL. Hopefully, he's healthy (missed spring) and can start tearing it up this season.

Good call. Johnson missed the spring, but I had a conversation last season with Coach Bennett, who called Johnson one of the toughest players he'd ever been around. He also made a comment (I forget the exact wording) about how Johnson is extraordinarily strong for a freshman, and that he (Bennett) has very high hopes for him.

Try not to "forget the exact wording". That is how we all end up knowing less about football. :D

Like everyone else, I'd like to see all true freshmen get redshirted, but if there's one who might crack the rotation, it wouldn't shock me to see Josh Robinson get in the mix at DE. I don't know a lot about him, but he had offers from a lot of legit programs, and he looks like he's more mature physically than a lot of guys.

WHEN DO 2-A-DAYS START?????
