Directors' Cup All Sports StandingSMU finished.......yea, we're #67! Didn't we finish #41 last year? We were #6 in Texas. Orsini better start cracking the whip.
It seems that we keep falling every year in those standings. I know we are still leading our conference, but we use to be in the top 50 every year. I guess getting rid of men's track and field was a step in the right direction given our post dp track record!
We used to be a perrenial Top 20 for many consecutive years-you're right we've dropped about 5 places every few years for the last 20 years. That will happen when you drop a sport like track etc. This is also a reflection of the BCS monopoly as the programs with greater revenues surpass SMU in sports that SMU used to rule. TCU and Baylor now get a lot of the kids in many of the "other sports" who used to go SMU. Texas A&M now competes strongly accross the board in sports they used to mediocre in.
Last year both men's and women's tennis made it to the NCAA tourney, this year they didn't. Men's soccer made it to the final four two years ago, this year they didn't. Women's Golf had multiple injuries and was missing their best two golfers in the NCAA tournament. I agree that it would be great if Men's and women's basketball and men's football would get us some Director's Cup points. This year Men's soccer should make another run at the Title. Women's soccer should be improved with younger players being more experienced. Men's and womens' tennis should be better with experience. Men's basketball might be a year away from NIT, but the women should very well be NIT ready. Men's swimming had their best year in a while and has many swimmers back. However, I would trade all of that for a BCS team in football.
