Serge update

It's my understanding from those that keep up with this sort of thing that we will probably not hear anything on DL Serge Elizee's eligibility until after workouts start on Aug. 6. In fact, it may not be known until mid-August.

We apparently followed proper procedure to get the paperwork filed with the NCAA. But the NCAA bureaucratic way of doing things is going to settle this on its own sweet time. Obviously, they have to provide some resolution, though, before the season.

The good news is that Serge can go through workouts and prepare for the season as if he would be ready to go this fall. And even if the NCAA doesn't grant his eligibility, he can still go through the season of practice and whatnot.

I have nothing to base this on -- strictly opinion -- but I do like our chances of having him become eligible. Minnesota dropped the ball on so many procedural things that Serge had no control over. That may not have any bearing but you would have to think the NCAA will consider this.

We need him especially with all of the graduation and injury losses we have suffered from 2006.

Thought you would like to know.

I heard the same thing about probably not hearing from NCAA until Mid. August.

If S.M.U. were Oklahoma this matter would already be resolved.

I don't like the chances of Serge playing this year as long as the NCAA follows its own stated rules. He doesn't meet the legal standard. That's OK he has 3 to play 2 I believe.

the only way he could play is if he gets a waiver because the coach who recruited him later got fired...that's got to be HIS case. else, he still has a RS to give (sit out a year)...and 2 to play.

I would be inclined to agree with you. However, since the NCAA does such a magnificent job of embracing the role as hippocrites and being a selective enforcement agency, you never know how it's going to turn.

Since Kyle Griffin's career is over, we really could use the help.

True, but they play different positions.
