SMU is apparently looking at a few high school fullback recruits and some say there is a need for someone who can get that one yard on the goal line like we did not do at Rice last year............Fact is, SMU has had a former high school Texas State Top 100 DMN fullback on the team for several years. To my knowledge, he has not been used at any runningback position in a game since arriving here several years ago.......Andrew McKinney was a big good tough high school back... Of course Junior TE Andrew Mckinney is now 6' 4" 265/270 BUT he is still quick ! What do you think BUS ? I say let the big man carry the ball down there around the one yard line from a Power I formation. I believe he would get that yard knocking anybody out of his way every time. The guy can still run ! HEY COACH , give Andrew Mckinney a chance down on the goal line to get it done. I think you will not be disappointed !

Going back and researching SMU's recruiting records in 2004, Rivals was showing Andrew McKinney 6' 3" 230 and running a 4.5 forty in high school.. Rivals 5.3 personal rating. I'm telling you the guy could still play there.

That's true, he can really run for a big guy — that's why I've always thought he might kill someone on special teams, since he's often the first guy downfield. Nobody that big should be able to move that fast. Last year an NFL scout said in the press box that he was the most impressive and promising athlete on the field, and I saw him writing notes about McKinney.

For the record, I think he was more of a tailback than fullback in high school, but he might have done both. He's valuable in his TE/H-back role, too, and with the glut of RBs on the roster, I don't see him moving back to RB. But he'll do whatever is asked of him. He was asked to lose some weight when he got to SMU, and did, and when he was moved to TE, he bulked up a lot, to his current size. He's got a great frame and seems to hold his quickness better than a lot of guys who add considerable weight. I'd like to see him back there, either as a short-yardage guy, or as a lead blocker for Martin.

I'm just hoping Coach will take this idea seriously and get this guy on the field in critical short yardage situations.... I hope "BUS" might consider letting McKinney barrow his name !

I agree with what everyone has said about Andrew. We have a very special athlete in Andrew and we have to find a way to use him!

Hell, against Tech if announced, some of ESPN's National TV viewers would continue watching the game just for a chance to see if the big man could carry people into the end zone. Several years ago the Chicago Bears did this with the "refrigerator", 300 lbs. DT William Perry, and the fans loved it as Perry scored TD after TD on the goal line.
