And then there is the rogue element: SMU (103), still crawling out of the smoking crater left by the NCAA's first (and undoubtedly last) football death penalty. Twenty years later, the Mustangs remain a shadow of their shadowy former selves.

Reading that narrative about San Jose State's attendance woes sounds alot like what could happen at S.M.U. if the Mustangs had a winning season.

Atleast I wasn't the only one who thought of that.

For Charlie......
"Western Kentucky will be the newest member, giving up habitual I-AA success to join the downtrodden Sun Belt Conference in football"

What's the difference between Duke football and SMU football? SMU football is better! But Duke gets BCS money, go figure.

"All told, they make up a bottom 20 teams that almost never play on television and almost never shock the world. Fans give away their tickets to friends and co-workers when these teams come to town -- except when they're scheduled for homecoming. Recruits ignore their text messages. Reporters never call."
Shock the world? Well beating #22 wouldn't shock the world, but it probable surprised a couple folks in the state of Texas
Never play on television? 3 ESPN games in 375 days doesn't sound too bad sandwiched inbetween 4 CSTV appearances.
Play in the Suck Belt? Nope.
Get recruits to call back? Well a couple seem to want to play football here.
Better win percentage than BCS teams? Actually two of them!
Not to jump for joy but for some reason it doesn't seem quite as bleak. Bleaker yes, but not completely.

im not trying to hate but I dont think many SMU fans would be proud to have better records than 2 BCS teams; considering those 2 teams (baylor & duke) have been celler dwellers for many many years. And also, im glad we play on CSTV, but not many of my friends have ever heard of that network before. So playing 4 games on cstv is great for us but not that big of a deal.

Guess a little sarcasm was lost there. Playing on PBS would be better for the program than nothing. You take what you can get until you have a national network obsess itself with you and air every home game every year like NBC does with Notre Dame.
Not trying to be all sunshiny but I was just kinda having a little fun with it. Don't worry I'm still well aware of the shortcomings and tears from the last 20 years/
