Texas LB Kindle, a former top recruit, arrested on DWI charge
Associated Press
July 29, 2007
AUSTIN -- Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle was arrested after a traffic stop Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated, police said.
The sophomore was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m. after failing a field sobriety test, according to Austin police. He was later released from Travis County Jail.
Kindle, who was among the nation's top high school recruits in 2006, played in 11 of 13 games last season and was expected to compete for a starting job this fall.
"We're aware of Sergio's situation and are disappointed anytime one of our players is accused of wrongdoing,'' Texas head coach Mack Brown said in a statement. "We take a strong stance against drinking and driving and will thoroughly investigate this situation.''
Texas begins its preseason camp Aug. 6.

Austin is the El Lay of Texas. As a UT graduate school alum (but diehard SMU fan), I confess that the frequent arrest of Longhorn players is more than an embarassment - it is a disgrace. Apparently blue chip players get a sense of entitlement about being at The University (that Quaker seminary on the Colorado). Mack Brown is no Barry Switzer, but his skirts are not clean either.

This is funny. End of story. I don't understand how a player that talented and recognized can do something this stupid. I bet this is all over Lakewood by now too.

Everyone needs to put down the stones. There is still a lot of long hot summer in Dallas.

From my understand, he was not one to get in trouble when he was at Woodrow. My cousin played football with him for a couple of years and said that his dad was always around to keep him out of trouble. While I know some people around seem to relish in it, I'm disappointed in the kid. I guess that's what happens when you get a little bit of freedom.

Actually, it's been unseasonably cool around here. Rained again today.

Should have stayed in Dallas and gone to SMU.

I would have loved it. The kid's a beast. Even when he was a Sophomore, he was still a man amongst boys. I'm sure his dad will be tearing him a new one, assuming he hasn't already.

I'm glad our student athletes and our alumni NEVER drink and drive. I'm sure no SMU football player has had a DWI in the last year.

Not really that noteworthy at UT unless he was carrying 15 lbs of pot under his arms, or had a bunch of automatic weapons in the trunk. He might get a boyscout medal down there for only being drunk.

This is irrelevant. I expect that UT will yet again have a winning season and go to a bowl and be ranked in the top 20 and all the stuff that makes football fans happy and will be disappointed if it does not happen. I do not expect any of that for SMU but will only be pleasantly surprised if any of it happens.
If jealousy of UT could make you better we'd have been better a long time ago...

Please, for the love of God, don't say that. That is what aggies say. You should never emulate anything that is aggy.
