Feel free to debate the teams at the top of the list but I found the "Also receiving votes" interesting.

So. Miss. gets 14 votes. Memphis gets 5 votes (this was a shocker to me and makes me worry even more than I was about our roadgame with them). UH gets 4 votes.

0-12 Duke gets a vote? 2-10 Memphis gets 5? You've got to be kidding me. If the coaches keep that up this poll will become a joke.

Spurrier always votes for DUKE in every preseason coaches poll. Didn't he used to coach there? Or maybe this is his stance that the preseason polls are a joke. And maybe Memphis is much improved this season, what do you know?

Interesting how Boise State dropped to the botom of the list while OU climbed near the top. I wonder why that is? Also, was the poll conducted before all the arrests in Austin or after the arrests?

As stupid as the Duke thing is, I'll give you that. But going out on a limb to give Memphis 5 votes before even playing a game after having a 2-10 season where they only beat 1 I-A team is laughable. Tulsa, ECU, SMU, and a whole load of others deserve to be on that list more than UM. UM may be much improved over last year, but they need to win some games before they are given votes.

The Duke voting happens every year so not surprised by that..

But wow at Memphis.

Congrats to Southern Miss and Houston on getting the votes.

I'm hoping that they mistakenly filled out those ballots thinking it was the basketball poll...or they (duke and memphis) just voted for their own team

Spurrier votes for Duke every year for some strange reason.

Yup, a couple years in the late 80s before going back to Florida as the head ball coach.

The AFCA prohibits coaches from voting for schools on major NCAA probation.

Why is OU on that list?

I guess, like so many things in life, it's not what you know....but who you know. Such as friends casting votes for you, etc.

Don't dismiss Memphis as a laughingstock. They have a strong QB in Hankins, and starting receivers who are fast and stand 6'4" and 6'8" and have good hands — in an offense with a big, veteran offensive line. They might not have a great team overall, but they'll score enough points to be in a lot of games.
