perennial losers? That's kinda harsh. Only we should be able to say that.

By Jay Howard/Correspondent ( [email protected]) 20SMU"Go ahead and laugh...I'll wait. Finished? You might be giggling now, but this team is no joke. The Mustangs return 18 starters from a team that went 6-6 a year ago, including standout freshman quarterback Justin Willis and a healthy running back in junior DeMyron Martin. It might be funny to think of these perennial losers as top 20, but no one will be laughing after SMU knocks off Texas Tech on Labor Day."
I don't know about that...we will probably be laughing and yelling our heads off hysterically after we knock off Tech.

As much as I like positive endorsements for SMU, does this guy have
20-20 vision? I want what he's having.

If Martin or one of the other running backs can gain a respectable amount of yards on the ground, SMU could easily have the best offense in C-USA.
Athlon has the Mustangs going 6-6 or 7-5, which in my mind is really selling them short. They will probably lead CUSA in offense and their special teams will be among the best in the conference. The only thing that could keep them from winning a conference title is the defense, namely three inexperienced starters up front. If the line and secondary grow and gel together, I see no reason why SMU cannot go 7-1 or 8-0 in conference. Look for a breakout season for the Mustangs and ideally, a long and lucrative contract extension for Phil Bennett. Wow. Go ahead and laugh…I’ll wait. Finished? You might be giggling now, but this team is no joke. The Mustangs return 18 starters from a team that went 6- 6 a year ago, including standout freshman quarterback Justin Willis and a healthy running back in junior DeMyron Martin. It might seem funny to think of these perennial losers as a Top 20 team, but no one will be laughing after SMU knocks off Texas Tech on Labor Day.
Perennial losers. That's just not right... well yeah, I guess it kind of is.

These guys may be crazy, but I don't care...they are like free advertising. Not only are they talking about us, but in a positive way! People really do read that publication and they just might get interested enough by these articles to buy a ticket and take a peek.

I'm in! Although a top 25 ranking seems a little optimistic, I like the positive pub. Between CSTV, CBS Sportsline and this article, it looks like at least some in the media see the potential that this year's squad possesses.

Someone is drinking some sugar coated Kool-Aid. I love the optimism and most of the stuff he says is true. If the defense gels then what he says could happen. I agree with everything except the Top 25 ranking. Even Cougar High couldn't crack the top 25 after winning the conference championship last year.

I hope your sunglasses are polarized and have UV protection. Better yet, you might want to invest in a pair of Oakleys.
