Chuck Hixson Question

There must be a simple reason, so I am going to ask a stupid question. Did Chuck Hixson choose not to enter the NFL draft? I was looking through the media guide and Hixson is not on the list of SMU players who played in the pros. I feel dumb for asking, but there must be an interesting explantion given his statistics at SMU.

Thank you in advance.

He was behind Dawson (I believe), Livingston (SMU great) and beside John Huarte from Notre Dame who was drafted along with him if I recall correctly. He stayed around for a while but saw very limited time if any. Still was one of the best I ever saw as far as release and accuracy. His biggest problem was he went to the pros in an era of rolling pocket and scrambling, neither of which was his forte.

Correct. Livingston was at KC as a backup for years. Hixson wasn't drafted. Huarte won the Heisman in 64.

Not bad for the memory of an old man. I was thinking Huarte came out at the same time, but I do remember being at a preseason game somewhere and seeng Chuck on the sidelines with all those other QBs and wondering if he would ever get the chance I wished he could have gotten.

Long time Auburn fans, as well as Ponyfans, still remember RS soph Hixson and the Mustangs beating the Tigers at home. It was Hixson's first game I think and the first of the season. :D

Since he played for KC, did the SMU Media Guide make a mistake by leaving him off the list?

According to the Kansas City Chiefs Encyclopedia, Hixson was drafted in the 13th round of the 1971 draft.
