Very nice story, I guess. Couple of interesting comments:
"He needs to be. SMU, which got to 6-6 last year on the strength of Willis' passing and a sound defense, has only one defensive starter back....
Huh? Cory Muse, Wilton McCray, Tony Hawkins, Jonathan Lindley, Bryan McCann, Bryce Hudman — they all started last year. Come to a game before you die, and you might see who plays.
".... A win over Rice in the final game would have made SMU bowl eligible last year but...."
Um .... Tim? We WERE bowl-eligible, you twit. Come to a game before you die, and you might .... ah, who am I kidding?

And now I am glad I left the lappy open for one more last hurrah... that was fantastic.
Some around the horn pub would be fantastic... but I would take some online T-Cow chat pub for starters. See post from a few days ago.
Love it.

A week ago during his online chat, Cowlishaw said this:
As a former SMU beat writer many years ago, I have come to realize there are no good answers for the Mustangs. I don't think they will ever be much different from what they have become although I think they can be more competitve in men's basketball and I think Doherty can make that happen. Not talking about Final Fours here but this team hasn't so much as won an NIT game in more than a decade.
Wonder what made him change his mind in a week's time? Or does he still believe this?

JWillis quote in the article:
I feel more poised," he said after a long, hot workout in Ford Stadium Tuesday. "You look at film of the Texas Tech game last year and I was a chicken with his head cut off. The team wasn't the problem; it was me.
THAT is encouraging. Why? Because in the shuttle bus back to the parking lot in Lubbock last year, once the game had been decided, all I heard about from the Tech fans was "wow, that QB scared us to death." "He's going to be a good one."

Whoa, a positive Cowlishaw article? Can't wait to hear more from these guys:
mr. pony wrote:Cowlishaw's a UT man and, as such, he's fine with keeping the little guys down - and out of the BCS.
mr. pony wrote:He may be the only lead columnist in a D-I city who has no idea what's going on with the hometown team.
Mustang98 wrote:Well said "Mr. Pony". I was at a party last weekend and a couple of my Big 12 friends were talking about the upcoming season. OU, Texas, A&M, Tech are all mentioned as I patiently waited to jump in. Then it's my turn. I remind everyone that our starting QB got some love on the front cover (even if it's small) of Dave Campbell's Magazine. Then I get that pompous question from my Big 12 friends, "What does SMU look like this year?" They have no idea what the heck is going on outside of a BCS conference. I tell them the upside and how things are so much better than they used to be and that we now allow athletes to commit to the school before they are academically accepted. People have no idea how far we have come since 1989. SMU is so under the radar that we could sign a few 4 star recruits and guys like Cowlishaw would have no clue. That's why Cowlishaw gave that lame answer in his chat because he just assumes it's business as usual with SMU. I am sorry to inform him, but those days are over. SMU's faculty and athletic department trust each other much more now than ten years ago. Cowlishaw needs to do his homework before he buries an entire school.

I guess he didn't like me calling him Cowlikker and figured he better at least try and show a little less of his burnt orange panties.

I found the article positive in a negative sorta way. Can I still bash Cowlishaw?
