CSTV?

I'm thinking about getting CSTV to watch some of smu's games this year. does it work very well or is the streaming video hard to watch/laggy?

Get it on TV, it's so much easier. CSTV on the web starts the games late (probably about 5 minutes in from what I've heard) and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how to get the stupid player to work on my computer.

For me, it was only an additional $2.00 for the year with Time Warner in Austin. I am a sucker and get the All Access but when they are away games it can be unbearable listening to the opposing team's announcers.

thanks for the info -- is cstv a regional broadcast? i'm in houston but will i still get all of smu's games that are set to play on cstv or do the houston area sports air on cstv instead of smu? haven't really had any experience with the channel so trying to figure out my best options.

All of CSTV's broadcasts are national. The SMU games that they are showing on TV will be on in Houston.

BTW CSTV is not on Time Warner in Dallas but is availiable on Dish Network on its Top 200 and 250 plans and on Direct TV with a special sports package. I believe that is correct since I recently had to research it.

There are 2 different things being discussed here. CSTV which is Channel 152 on Dish is great but they do not show all of the SMU games. We have one or two scheduled this year. They will have a weekly CUSA game. The All Access will have most if not all of the SMU games but you may have to listen to the opposition for the away games. If you can not make the away games , the All Access is better than just listening. The picture is blurry the larger you make it so you either watch a clear 3x3 inch screen or a fuzzier 8x8 inch or so screen. I have gone from not even being able to get a radio broadcast (in Arkansas), to getting audio through the internet, to getting video stream from CSTV All Access, to live games on CSTV when chosen. Things do get better but do take time. Kind of like our team at this point.

You definitely will want to get the CSTV All Access for the streaming games. Pretty much every game will be available here, while only 2 or 3 make the CSTV Broadcast schedule on the TV.

Quality depends on many factors, your connection speed and the camera crew and editor at the stadium being the biggest ones.

If you have a broadband connection and the camera crew and editor do a good job and have decent equipment, the quality is pretty good and you can definitely follow the action with no problem. Of course the flipside is you will occasionally come across an away game that will have technical difficulties, or have only one camera, or show a fat kid eating ice cream instead of a crucial 3rd and 10.....but thats a chance you take and overall the experience is worth paying for if you want to see the games.

Let's say you weren't ever able to make it to Ford at all this year (which better not happen, but for argument) -

We have three games on CSTV this year.... so get that, if you can, it's worth it. So with the two ESPN games this year it's 7 other games that you will be wanting an interweb feed.

Of those 7, 6 of them will definitely be on all access do to conference affiliatiions, etc. The only one that is a toss up is Arkansas State. I don't know if the Sun Belt/they have a deal with CSTV All Access.

But assuring yourself 11 games, with 5 of them on the real tube.. not bad (and two of them in glorious Hi-Def to boot!) Do it.

I think they have some high school kids stringing cable to Jonesboro as we speak. Should get there about the same time the electric wiring is in place, and the water and sewer system is put in. If weather permits ASU should have cable, running water and indoor plumbing any day now. Assuming the "All Nascar All the Time" channel can get connected quickly, CSTV ALL Access should be right behind.

That's great! I'm sure you'll be glad you won't have to go out to the latrine when it's cold and rainy anymore. Upside is the bathrooms will be closer to that your TVs so you won't have to miss any college sports or NASCAR races ever again. Those high school kids will be revered like Greek gods.

Unfortunately - if you are a Comcast Sucker and tied into the local cable company - you will have to hope that they actually carry cstv. In Tennessee - they don't.

Perhaps those high school kids who are stringing cable to Jonesboro AR continue eastward to Nashville . . . of course - we alreay have the All Nascar channel - so perhaps we are closer than I think . . .

For local Dallas residents - 6 games at Ford + 3 nationally televised away games (ESPN, CSTV) + 3 games on channel 21 (Arkie St., Memphis and Tulsa) = 100% coverage of your ponies this year!!!

For anyone living away - why would you leave Dallas? Actually I have watched the CSTV broadcast for the past couple of years and it really isn't a bad option to stay in touch.

If you live in Houston, there is no reason you can't drive to all 6 home games...Think what the crazy A&M, Texas, and Tech fans do...The away games are a different story...COME JOIN US ON THE BOULEVARD!!!
