SMU ponies up cash to increase visibility

Along with television commercials, radio spots, print ads, billboards and banners, SMU is paying to produce a weekly show for coach Phil Bennett and to air three road games on Channel 21. SMU hasn't had a coach's show or a locally produced game broadcast since 2000.

3 road games on TV!?! Did anyone know that we have games on Channel 21? Which 3 are they going to be?

Two new billboards are already visible on North Central Expressway, which borders the SMU campus. Commercials will begin airing on local TV on Aug. 26. Radio spots start Aug. 29.

The campaign attempts to link the present – notably quarterback Justin Willis, the 2006 C-USA freshman of the year – with the glory years of Doak Walker and the Pony Express. It also plays on SMU traditions, such as its version of tailgating on The Boulevard, the main road of SMU's campus.

I can't wait to see those TV spots and for them to be on YouTube.

Also it says that Orsini's goal for season tickets is 5,000 this year and we have reached 85% of that goal. He also expects to double the ticket revenue we had last year.

They were posted on this site earlier this week. Coulda saved ya a trip from Cowtown. ;) (although your profile says 'Langley, VA...;) )

Alright...The TV spots begin Aug. 26 (Sunday) & the radio spots on Aug. 29 (Wednesday). Gold star to the first ponyfans poster who can post here which station and the date/time they heard/saw it!

And...can anyone pinpoint the billboards anywhere else in the Metroplex besides one mile north or south of the campus on Central Expressway?

from the DMN article: SMU hasn't had a coach's show or a locally produced game broadcast since 2000. Didn't the Mustangs have their last game against Boise State (2004 season) produced and aired locally? I recall the reception was awful...and I think it was Ch. 21 (maybe Ch. 27) that aired the game. :?

I don't think it was local only, because I watched it down here. And along with the awful reception they had equally awful Ted Dawson doing play by play as the voice of Boise St.

OK. For a seat to any SMU home game (shared of course with Jtstang) which NTSU troll can answer....How many SMU season tickets have been sold to date? Calculators are allowed.

Not to be argumentative, but how do you know it's those 3. Given those are the three remaining road games, what makes you think it wouldn't be double televised (e.g. USM game on CSTV and Channel 21)? Just a thought. So you can put your Jump to Conclusions mat away now.

No one will answer as they don't want to sit next to him or worse have him sit on their lap.

Come on, I'm not that bad to sit next to and I don't sit on anybody's lap, PK's fantasies nothwithstanding. However, if an NTSUer was sitting next to me, you can bet I would strike up the "SMU blackalled NTSU" converstion at some point. Probably early in the game, lest we be losing when I did it.

Actually, there are very nice lightpost banners down by the Crescent at Routh and McKinney. Just noticed them yesterday coming into work, and didn't have a chance to drive around to see how many there are. They have the Pony Up symbol on one side of the lightpost and the full home schedule on the other side of the lightpost.

A pleasant surprise.

See what can happen when you aren't expecting something?

In glorious HD... it will be touching, heartfelt, and wholly inappropriate. It will be a part of my 12 part Tears for Todd - UNT Obsession series.
