OUT-of-town TV games

Postby PonyPride » Fri Aug 17, 2007 8:34 pm

Written that way because everyone needs to be AT the home games....

However, for those who can't make the trip to Arkansas State, Tulsa and Memphis: where's the game-watching party?

If we can plan now, we can get a huge turnout and take a place over.

You gather based on a theme:

Arkansas St - you gather at a greasy spoon that serves hog-jowels and chitlins

Memphis, you go to a BBQ place with finger-lickin' ribs

Tulsa - uh...you go to a bar and drink hurricanes...(what the heck is Tulsa known for?)

I vote for Public House on Lower Greenville. Don't remember the whole evening, but had a blast watching Jessie Henderson help us beat down Tulane.

Several songs, at least:

"Tulsa Time" by Don Williams
"Take Me Back to Tulsa" by Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys
"The Last Trip to Tulsa" by Neil Young
"Tulsa County Blues" from the Easy Rider soundtrack
"Tulsa" by Dwight Twilley
"Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa" by George Strait
"The Tulsa Shuffle" by The Tractors

I think oil is the driving force in Tulsa though I hear the azaleas are pretty good there too.

Tulsa is also known for
Oral Roberts University

Image

Also Southern Hills - Site of this year's PGA Championship.

I think the golf theme is more condusive for drinking and watching football than the Evangelical University theme is.

doesn't care who wins.

Tulsa is an ugly town with an ugly university (or two, according to Treadway21), ugly uniforms, a ridiculously ugly mascot and the most horrendously ugly stadium on the planet.

I vote for Fox & Hound (the one off LBJ and Skillman).

Oct. 27 - SMU v Tulsa in Tulsa or Sam Houston State v Stephen F. Austin State in Nacogdoches (the annual "Battle of the Piney Woods"!). Hmmm. :?

Tell me where you live and I'll come get you to drive you to Fox & Hound.

I can't let you miss a game for that other JV scrimmage you're considering (kidding - I know you went to school there, but seriously - we're talking Div. I-A football here, man).

I dunno. SHSU v SFA is the Div. 1-A FCS version of aTm v UT or UT v OU. Always a blood bath and bragging rights in the Southland Conference. However, there's a chance I could work both games in...the SMU game is at 2 p.m. The SHSU game is at 6 p.m. ;)

I hope these early post are the exception, too many fans already conceding TO NOT make an effort to follow the team. Before you break out your small violins, lets get some of the real tear jerker excuses out of the way (others are welcome to apply)

it's hot
dog died
cold
too windy
team doesn't play well on road
no cash
no car
no job
no balls
no friends
no insurance
no interest
no guts
no heart
rush is on tour
food network
no life
