What beating Tech on TV means...

An SMU win over Tech on TV would virtually change history post-DP. A ponies win would publicize and promote the football program as having recovered from the 20 year exile we have endured. That's how much this game could mean. Am I right, or am I wrong?

Probably.

If we do win, I know what it will mean to me. I've been trash talking with someone I work with and I am building a database for. Whenever anyone else logs into the database, it will look normal. However, if we win, whenever he logs in, it will be red and blue with the score displayed. Even if we don't win, I might do the red and blue thing just for him.

I wouldn't say that a win would mean we have fully recovered from the 20 year exile, but a nationally televised defeat of Texas Tech would go a long way toward earning some well deserved respect.

Provided we did not lose to NTSU the following week............how many times post DP have we had a huge win....only to have a serious letdown the following week? A win over Tech, while being the biggest win post DP, would not mean that much if at the end of the season, we had a losing record.

Winner!

Honestly, Beating Tech only counts for the week. If we lose to ntcc the next week, then nothing has Changed. If we go to a Bowl game, or the conference championship, and build on that success for a few years, Perhaps we'll look back and call Tech "The turning point." But its going to be more about how the season ends than how it begins.

Much like TCU did with their after their 0-10 team but the Mike Cave-in" Cavan team.....and I believe that the next year was when they went to the Sun Bowl and beat USD.....and have never really looked back since when it comes to being one of the best teams from a mid-major conference.

And that was a mighty Toreros team that year.

It would not mean anything. Game=no meaning.

exactly. it won't matter if we stumble to N. Texas @ home the following week. we have to be consistent all year and get that elusive bowl game, then i will consider beating Tech something worth bragging about. but in honesty, i really don't see us beating tech.

It would get us some nice exposure from the clips on ESPN Sports Center that would play for a few days afterwards. That's it.

Tech's name, on the other hand, would be dragged through the mud...its "rating" would be lowered, there would be talk about how this might be a rebuilding year for them, there would be absolutely no talk about Tech being a Big 12 contender, and there may even be some speculation that Leach could be on his way out.

Then comes week 2...

Again, a win would be huge with the media momentum we've gained of late. They WANT the story of SMU coming back from the dead. But Cadillac and Ponyfan84 are right. Stumbling against NT the following game would have a dampening effect to say the least.
