Will Southwest Texas Attempt Div.1-A Status Thru Name Change?

Here's a crazy scenario: what if Southwest Texas State University (San Marcos, TX) tries to go Div.1-A status with its pending name change? And...what if it tried to be a part of a new Southwest Conference?

On another note, Southwest Texas was all hyped up about getting a Div.1-A transfer from the University of Houston (Barrick Neely) but the Bobcats' head coach may have shot himself in the foot by talking about it being a 'done deal' before Neely was released from his scholarship at UH (which still hasn't happened). The NCAA is looking into it.

Nealy is the old QB from Dallas's Adamson HS, isn't he? As I recall, he played on a terrible (undisciplined) team, but he's a hell of an athlete.

Whatever SWTS renames itself, it's a prime foe for North Texas State - not SMU or TCU or Rice or even Houston.
