My Observations from today's game

I haven't read a single thread on here since getting back from the game, so these are completely my takes, uninfluenced by others' opinions.

- The defense has GOT to step up on 3rd downs. I haven't looked at the stats, but it seems like Tech converted at least 90% of 3rd downs.

- Red Zone offense is abysmal. This might have to do with playcalling. Did we even try and run in the red zone today?

- What was with all the empty seats in the endzone section? I thought this game was supposed to be a sellout or at least close to a sellout. Do we not include general admission in the "sellout" description?

- The student section was full, and it was LOUD. I was pleasantly surprised. Until they started leaving in the 3rd quarter. I really wish more people would watch the game until the end.

- Zac Rhodes showed some feistyness (is that a word) in his limited action. That was a positive.

- The defensive line is decent against the run. They just never got any pressure on the quarterback. We really could have used Cory Muse.

- Does anyone in the secondary know how to tackle? There were times when it looked like they were afraid to hit a receiver! If you can't make a play on the ball, at least deliver a blow to the receiver...and don't let them break 10 yard passes into long touchdowns because of missed tackles.

I think that's about it. As always, Special Teams was pretty solid. I'll go out on a limb and estimate that we finish the season at 7-5.

Oh, one more thing...the receivers need to make the easy catches!

agree with most of that, but seemed to me that muse played quite a bit unfortunately. Did Elize play alot?

Muse played 6 plays according to Bennett. Elizee was probably in at least 15-20 plays I think. He played when Charlie Berry got a stinger. BTW did Brandon Jones pull a hamstring? How about Lindley. Bell got thrown in there with about 5 seconds notice and off play failed to shed his man and make a very good play on down field tackling that went for a TD. Tough situation I admit.

What's this "as always" for the special teams :?: I think this is the first
time Bennett's special teams have had no punts blocked in a game this
early in the season.

that's the "pretty" part of "pretty solid." There's always one or two problems at the beginning of the year...this year's version was kickoff coverage and the one instance where both our return men fought over the kickoff.

I saw him get rolled up once - not sure how the rest of the performance was... except to say the Tech QB was in the pocket so long I think he was aging before my eyes, so not great is my thought.

'course, their OLine was LARGE... don't quite have the wind they should, but BIG.

Bell was at a very big disadvantage ont hat play. Lindley should have gone down on the turf. He tried to signal he was hurt, but nobody saw him and they didn't sub in Bell until the last minute. The whole defense was disorganized because of it, and we gave up the TD on the screen. Felt bad for Bell - first play and he was blocked out of the play and had to scamper in while Tech was snapping the ball.
