When will we see Bailey or Bell??????

Postby chillinfool » Sun Sep 09, 2007 12:38 am

I hate to call out a player but Jones can't cover anyone 1-on-1. Tech exposed this on Monday when over 1/2 of their 3rd and long conversions were on Jones, and tonight UNT did with Fitzgerald catching I believe 14 of his 18 passes on Jones, and that wasn't all the times Jones got burned!
Teams are just going to keep throwing at him and keep scoring on SMU until they find someone that can cover or give him some help. In fact Hudman's interception tonight was because in the 4th quarter they finally gave Jones some help and there was double coverage on the UNT receiver that play.
Hence, I am just wondering since Bailey is the one "blue chip" recruit we signed this year, and they didn't redshirt him, why don't we see him on the field or even Bell?? It's hard to imagine they can be any worse covering man-to-man than Jones, and if they are, we need to fire our scouts!

I'm sorry it was more than just one player tonite. You do realize that Jones and Lindley wear close number 22 and 21. Lindley got beat. McCann's man made planty of plays. The Safeties didn't support. There were TEs and receivers running wide open down the middle. They all struggled tonite from my perspective.

I say we need Bell and Bailey our there as soon as we can, move Jones to Saftey or Nickle back.

I believe Lindley was the one that got abused the most. Then he got a pick and acted like he saved the game. I was also wondering when we might see Bell out there.

I'm sure Bell is a great athlete — he and Bailey actually looked pretty good on special teams — but I'm not sure a true freshman needs to be thrown in there at CB. Brandon Jones laid an egg last night, but he'll be fine. He has shown he can cover. None of them had a great night last night. McCann had an interception and should have had three. Lindley had one. Jones should have had one. As the pass rush improves, so too will the coverage in the secondary.

both lindley and jones are giving receivers way too much of a cushion. their receivers did that little hook route about 44 times yesterday night. they threw to the left side like 5 times consecutively because our corners were too soft on em

...and of course Tech ran the same play another 44 times and Bennett claims they worked on that play but just didn't get it done. Lindley, and Jones and McCann ALL got beat. The Safeties made poor tackles and failed in pass support. They ALL stunk it wasn't one guy. I will agree McCann made more plays this week and last week but he needs a lot of improvement too.

Thoughts:
It was a W. The rest is statistics that don't do me any good.

#22 looks really rusty...isn't he the one who was out for a year. Needs to get more comfortable back there.

I thought the pass coverage was weak, but they threw on SMU virtually ever down, and they no huddled the defense to death. And the game lasted nearly four hours in considerable mugginess. I think the defense maintained a pretty good level of intensity for those conditions.

I generally liked what we saw from the O-line. They found some "horse" last night.

Two things bother me greatly about the coaches from a game management perspective. a) Burns is still down on sidelines...not in pressbox...I don't like that. b) I didn't see pass rush adjustments quickly enough. UNT's right tackle was beaten to the inside on 12 occasions that I could see well. He wasn't beaten once to the outside that I could see. Muse's spin move and grab came on that guy. I know that the DE's play to the outside is intended to turn the play in, but on a pass rush, what were they turning in?

Just my thoughts. All-in, I enjoyed the game.

the offensive line was playing NTSU. They played acceptable-nothing outstanding. There were plenty of defenders in our backfield. Willis still has to scramble around back there. They get lauded they need to dominate-and they didn't. Tech's line dominated-giving Graham all Nite to find his receivers. I'd like them to give Willis half that time against an average Sun Belt team. They had nice blocks on a few plays-other plays were unsuccessful. Averaging 4-5 yards against NTSU is average nothing better. Let's see how they do against TCU before they get lauded for an average performance.

Bennett in his post game comments said that the corners played very tentative all night and this was a big concern that needed to be corrected. (no kidding). Of course, the lack of any pressure on the QB most of the night also played a big factor. How do we allow NT to establish a school total offense record ( 613 yards) at our place? Not only embarrassing but totally rediculous.
