The only non-BCS team in either poll is Hawaii. The moral of the story is if you are a great non-BCS team -- Boise State, TCU -- and you lose to a BCS team, you pay a heavy price. Perfection isn't good enough.

As for the Mountain West, they can continue to curb their hopes -- pretty much forever -- of getting into the BCS picture. When your two big boys in BYU and TCU lose (albeit on the road) but South Florida wins in overtime at Auburn -- MWC followers always believe the Big East was ripe to get picked off -- it continues to show conferences like the MWC, CUSA, MAC and others will always be on the outside looking in.

That's why this system is garbage.

No, if you are ranked in the 20s and lose, you are out. That's all we saw this week.

I think they got 19 votes because they beat Michigan last week (and they weren't allowed to vote for them last week).

 Really!?! I thought it was because Lenoir-Rhyne was a big dog in the college football world. Yay South Atlantic Conference! I rank them up with the likes of the SEC and the Pac-10. It's a good thing SMU doesn't play Benedict College, Mars Hill College, and Catawba College.

Uh, SMU squeaked by a BAD UNT team and you're talking [deleted] about a team that beat Michigan?

Reread it with the sarcasm tag inserted.

Did Orsini ever set a deadline for SMU to be top 25 in football?

We'll have to wait until the final polls come out. Once we win CUSA and beat Tennessee in the Liberty Bowl, we'll get plenty of love. I will now remove my tongue from my cheek.

I pointed out the Lenoir-Rhyne victory not because I thought that was why they got votes in the AP poll, but rather in spite of it. Lenoir-Rhyne isn't even FCS. They are D-II. I pointed it out because people are still impressed by their victory over Michigan (though I'm less impressed after seeing Michigan's complete flop of a football game against Oregon yesterday).
