There is hope

It was a win. For those that did not witness it, it was ugly. Our secondary gave up too many big long plays. Our pass rush was non-existent without a blitz. Our O was impotent too often. At times we needed Viagra.

Now, so much for venting. There were areas of improvement. Our corners that have had such an issue for about 88 minutes this year, began making closing plays later in the game. Our safeties began making closing plays later in the game. Yes, I know we had some blown coverages but the timidity of our corners began to fade as the game progressed. Our secondary began to close on the ball and make solid tackles. And we made some plays to break up passes. None of this existed until the second half of the NTSU game.

Hats off to Brandon Jones. He flew (and I mean flew) to catch a NTSU receiver heading for the end zone on a blown coverage. He made three attempts to make the tackle and finally brought the NTSU man down. This saved a TD and a score. Hats off to ponyte's play of the game to Brandon Jones. Hell of an effort worthy of great Mustang teams of yore. # 22 didn’t give up and made the play that set up the rest of the game and the win.

We went long early in the game without success but brother it paid off in the second half. Lowery and Sanders finally showed why they are considered the best of the best. And Sledge had a very non-Stallion game.

Now Arkyland State will be a big challenge. Yes, we man handled them last year. And we may well man handle them this year. Our D is improving (yes, I know how many yards NTSU put up). The corners are growing in confidence. Our running game is in search of a break out game. Arkyland State could easily be that game. We can run the ball and I hope our O line gets a clue as to how we they can dominate opponents.

Specially teams were solid. Punt coverage and all returns were solid. Henderson got a few lessons on how well motivated opponents can close on the ball. I bet he will learn from the experience.

It was good to beat a NTSU that was well prepared and came to play. We beat a motivated opponent and we should feel good about it. Remember, Michigan lost to a well motivate opponent and it ruined their season. We had the character to win when we needed the win and were playing a motivated opponent.

This is a very big week for us and the Ponies could have another ugly win. But a win is a win.

AS I just told Thadfilms, if SMU thinks they're playing the same team they played last year they will get spanked.
