Because any head coach that doesn't throw the sh*t out of the ball against us should be shot.

Does anybody recall another time SMU came into a game ranked No. 1 in the country in rushing defense and got absolutely bulldozed against UT which set all kinds of records. I want to say under Bum Phillips as Defensive Coordinator when the entire Texas Wisbone backfield ran for 100 yards each or in the mid 1970 when Leaks ran wild. Perhaps myrdel can recall. That scenario sticks in my mind. The point is that Rushing Defense stats don't mean jack until you play a strong rushing team.

I think that was 1973 or 1974 that Leaks went wild. By then Phillips was gone to OSU and Dave Smith was our coach.

That was 1972. Bum was already gone, but Hayden Fry was still the coach. What happened in that game was Louie Keltcher got hurt just prior to half time and Leaks rushed for 350+ yards in the second half. Keltcher had shut down Leaks before his injury.
Just send 'da money.

I think (could be wrong) those were two different games. One had UT with 4 running backs all over 100 yards. (Burtleson, Street, Koy?, Wooster???), and then there was a game where Leaks ran for over 300 yards and would have set a new NCAA single game record if the field had been 10 yards longer on his final run. Either way, UT tended to put up some big stats for us.

it definitely was two different games as myrdel states-but I seem to recall we led the country in rushing defense coming into one of those games.
