DeMyron Martin

Postby Mustang98 » Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:28 am

The few rushing attempts made by DeMyron in the Texas Tech game were very impressive. He is one of my favorite players to watch because he is big. Is there a good reason why he doesn't get more carries? Is he playing hurt? Is he in Bennett's dog house?

No. Our coaches are just stupid.

I think our OC wants to fun and gun with the QB out of a shotgun as opposed to being under center and that means that rushes tend to be more of the draw variety. DM is more of an off tackle -move the pile kind of a back who would be more effective with the QB under center. You need a fast scat back to run draws. If Willis got under center and we ran an off tackle and then Willis goes to the gun, talk about telegraphing our plays. I have a feeling that at some point this year, they'll move Willis under center for a game to mess with an opponent and allow for Martin to pound and for more play action stuff.

so your still in the camp that this coaching staff is planning and scheming each game, what could you possibly base that thought on, have you followed Bennett's 6 year tenure?

If we are going to run the Pistol or Shotgun formation, we need to get Martin more involved in the passing game. His size and speed should give us an advantage. It seems like Martin has had some nice receiving games in the past.

Maybe Willis likes to be in the shotgun? Is our O-Line not as effective?

I just think it would be much more effective getting a blocker and Martin getting running momentum going into the line. Right now he has to hesitate and look for the holes rather than burst through.

Same reason we have never thrown enough to our talented tight ends under Bennett. It's just not part of his gameplan.

The best coaches create a gameplan to capitalize on the strengths of their players.

Mediocre coaches create a gameplan, then plug in whatever players they have.

Our coaches have decided that they will run this offense, even if it means under utilizing players like Martin, Chase, etc. I'm not saying that any of our other players are not talented (far from it), but that we could be far more diverse and that we are letting some good, possibly great talent go under-utilized.

Im sorry but this sometimes happens when you have a team that runs a spread offense. There will be moments when the RBs dont touch the ball.

Be patient, I actually have faith in the coaches this year. Martin will get the ball more this week.

Absolutely on point! Who was the freshman that turned down Indiana to come here? Why is he not in the rotation? Burley should be a WR! Wre need to involve Hendersen! What happenned to that Rhodes Playing WR-

Get some more WR's who didn't walk on into the games-

Orsini I hope you are very busy with your search Because this group of coaches are either braindead or know they are lame ducks!

DE Josh Robinson. Learning a new defense, and getting bigger and stronger.

ponygrad90 wrote:Burley should be a WR!

Based on what? He has added weight, and he had knee surgery. I don't know personally, but that could lessen his speed. In addition, he has a big frame, and family genetics suggest he could carry a lot more weight. If he grows to 250 (I'm obviously speculating here), would you still say he has to play WR?

ponygrad90 wrote:Wre need to involve Hendersen!

Tried that last year, and he got hurt. Seems the coaches are leery of doing anything that might increase the risk of injuring a game-changing kick returner.

He's the No. 2 QB on the depth chart.

If nothing else, running the ball more would keep the pass defense off the field. Would that be all bad?

We ran 74 offensive plays last week -- it's not like our offense went 3-and-out all night.

With that many passes being thrown, the clock will stop a lot. Lots of plays were run on both sides. We ran 74, they ran 85. Our guys were chasing a pass-happy offense five days after chasing another pass-happy offense. I didn't like the numbers UNT put up any more than anyone else did, but I can understand if our D was a little shell-shocked. If our guys hang on to a couple more of those should-be INTs, they don't get nearly that yardage, they don't get their 35 points and nobody on this board is diving off high bridges.
