Serge Elizee ProgressAny progress with Serge Elizee? Is he picking up the system in practice? When will he be an every down playmaker on defense?

we need the big guy in the rotation badly. I was disappointed with the lack of pressure against UNT and thought that our DL looked "gassed". UNT's offense didn't allow for substituting, so it's all the more critical to have a quality 2 deep so they can rotate series
come on serge

If nothing else, It's a hell of a lot of fun to yell:
SUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRGGGGGGEEEE! When he goes in. Also, thanks to Justin Smart, I can still scream "Get 'Em Justin!" whenever either the offense or Defense are on the field. I'm going to ask Morestead and Cunningham to change their names to Justin as well. -CoS
From watching the first two games, I think Serge has done pretty well with his limited reps. Seems to do a good job in reading where the ball is going, especially on screen passes. I'm interested in seeing how he does against a running team; I think he would probably excel against the run. His pass rushing skills, I would say are not the greatest, but I’ll hold my judgment till mid season.
I sit right behind the SMU bench and I think the only thing keeping Serge off the field is his conditioning. Twice against Tech he came out because he was gassed, and once again against UNT. Granted, he didn't get notice until late that he was elgible, so he's still trying to get into football shape not to mention the heat in Texas takes some time to get used to considering he spent the spring in Minnesota.
The no-huddle gassed the whole defense. Secondary lapses were due to the no-huddle and lack of pass-pressure. Even if the defensive front had a push on 1st down, by the next set of downs, they were down or switching out with other players. There were a lot of short passes thrown one right after another. He does need more conditioning. But I like his lateral movement. The play that impressed me was in the second half when there was a little screen toward the UNT sideline and in the midst of the mass of bodies, he recovered and made the tackle on the receiver. Very good play.
Give him a little more time to get up to speed and stamina and hopefully, his number of snaps will increase. I would hope by So. Miss, he would be ready for a full-game's work.
chillinfool is right  it's conditioning. Apparently the coaching staff is pleased with his progress, considering the short time he has spent working with the regular rotation, rather than the scout teamers he lined up with when he first got here. They do want him to get his pad level lower, but that apparently is improving already, and is a very correctable flaw. He is expected to be a major part of the rotation for the rest of the season, perhaps even earning a starting spot.
Did Tulane last year? Sir, shooting-star, sir.

I was wondering if anybody else noticed this. Why don't we bump the receivers coming off the line. We just let them run their slants without any interuption of their timing. Just send 'da money.
I believe PB has said at numerous times that he doesn't bring the corners up because he's afraid they will get burned if they miss a bump. I really don't think this guy knows how to teach technique so he just does what he thinks he knows and is a stubborn SOB about it. Reminds me of Bush. From my experience with the program in PB's first year, I think him and Jim Gush are absolute morons. I'd seen high school practices run more effectively. I honestly don't know why kids want to play for this staff. Then again, I was always treated like crap and overworked so I quit so maybe I just have bitter memories
