I'm really worried about this game. Have been since last year. But you know what there is no excuse to lose this game. My level of confidence in analyzing ASU's talent level is not very high because SMU and ASU generally recruit different recruiting areas. But ASU does have about 15-20 Texans and all were spares coming out of high school. BTW they do have Kelvin Cox who originally signed with SMU but had some sort of academic issue and transfered or may have flunked out. Really guessing on their non-Texan talent level but if its similar to the level of their Texas recruits it ain't very good.Unless they are hiding them in their roster I don't see a lot of Division 1A transfers and what JUCOs they have are ho-hum. On the other hand, you have to respect their home record 9-1. They've beaten some recognizeable although not great non-Sun Belt teams. Throw in some credit for competing with UT in Austin. Not much more to go on. Revenge certainly works in their favor. This game is really a big game for SMU even though I'm not sure they understand how big. Surely, they will be ready after the egg they laid in Denton last year. As I said earlier in the year Defense will slowly begin to improve somewhat with experience. Give me SMU 30 ASU 24.

I picked SMU to lose by 21 to Tech and win by 17 to NTSU. Not too bad. I generally predict a score unless its a real tossup like Tulane last year. I'm sure Blog could remind me but I called it a toss-up I believe-could have predicted a 1 point Tulane win can't exactly remember. . ....and it was a tossup until Jessie Henderson ran back the kickoff 100 yards with 5 minutes left. But I got the gist of what was going down and that's about all you can expect. BTW that Tulane game was another game we forgot to add to the aerial assault examples against SMU DBs-didn't Tulane throw for 300 yards passing in the 2nd Half.

Agree with Stallion's analysis. Would add that I expect DeMyron to have a big game and I also have a feeling that Henderson will bust a long return. Mustangs 38 - ASU 31.

I think SMU will try to run the ball more to keep their defense off the field, and I just hope SMU's defense is able to stop the ASU run and hopefully defend the pass better since ASU's don't run a spread like UNT and Tech...SMU 27-ASU 16.

I know we can move the ball against these guys and really believe that our D will find its way.

First, I think they're more vulnerable to the pass and Colt McCoy is an average passer. And UT was trying to get their running game untracked the first game. Like Stallion, I have to believe that Bennett with a full week and two weeks of film has made some adjustments on D. This could be a great game for the D to get well if their wideouts are not as fast as the members of our secondary. But 9-1 at home is a pretty good record for the inbreds (I mean Indians). So, they must have some noisy fans who will make it difficult for our offense. For some reason, I sense this will be a breakout game for us. We won ugly last week and the offense put up some numbers. I think we'll win 45-21 with three turnovers by ASU.

no offense, but you are clueless.
You might want to ask Texas about team speed and ability before you declare our roster ho-hum. If there is one thing our coaches are good at, its finding hidden talent. But even beside that, we have a lot of highly recruited players.

Not just Texas players like Jarriel Norman (Class 2A 2nd team, 2005 state champion in 100- (10.60) and 200- meter (21.40) dashes. ) DOn't forget Prince Hickman, Brian Sheffield, Chris Easley, Josh Arauco along with others (who among those are "spares"?)

RB Preston Brown - 4 star, #13 RB in the country (scout) offers from Ok State, Tennessee, Miami, etc

OL Paul Henry - Scout 4 star, OG #22 Several Big offers

FB William Anderson - #9 FB in the country

DE Stanley Porter - 3 SEC Offers

Snapper Adam Gaston - Ranked by Max Emfinger as Top 10 in the country.

A lot of these guys aren't even #1 on the depth chart. I guarantee you Tyrell Johnson will be the best defensive player to take the field saturday, and after Reggie Arnold (who is just averaged 6.2 YPC against Texas) gets through with your line, you'd be happy to have him too.

SMU will be a test for us for sure, and I am not predicting us to win just yet, but if you think your team is going to come into Indian Stadium and walk all over this team, you are mistaken.

Whoa. I blacked out for a minute. I remember the tossup prediction for Tulane, whcih I predicted as a close win if I recall. But, Stallion, he is right that you used to not issue predictions and when you did, they were vague both sides "If SMU can't cover ___, then they are going to lose by thirty" kinds of thing. You are also starting to answer actual questions.

I am betting you found something at Red River over the summer that is mellowing you out.

The home record is concerning but only one of those was not a Sunbelt team and that was Army. The only teams with winning records they have beaten at home in that stretch were ULaLa in '05 and Middle Tenn. in '06. Lest we forget the Sunbelt nonconference record historically matches that of I-AA vs. I-A. Part of that is they play up every week; part of that is that the Sunbelt just isn't very good.

Also, remember that team imploded in that game in a way SMU has in hte past. The wheels fell completely off. It happens. It isn't always indicative of the team as a whole. That being said, a close loss in week one to a national power isn't indicative, either.

I still hold onto my "Bennett with his back to the wall" theory, which gets us to 2-2 somehow. Since I can't envision beating TCU, I think Bennett gets the team to play with sufficient urgency this week. But, man, I suspect a war given what we did to them last year.
