RB'S Dream, maybe not?

Postby AusTxPony » Wed Sep 12, 2007 4:54 pm

While the DMN was busy blasting our pass defense as #119, I missed where we stood in Rushing Defense. I would think pretty good with UNT making only 20 yds. or so. Did anyone see that statistic and ranking?

Where does our 8 yards per carry average rank?

Since you ask, there have been 39 rushing attempts against SMU (pretty sure that counts sacks*). That is the seventh fewest in the NCAA. However, all those with fewer attempts have played just one game. The 19.5 attempts against per game is the fewest in NCAA. In other words, no one has tried to run against SMU.

BTW, the 2.36 yards per rushing attempt against is 14th best in the NCAA.**

*Zero sacks against TT

**I think the worst yardage lost on an attempt was the NTSU high snap, which was a loss of 23 yards; take that one play out and the yards per attempt jumps over 3.00

So no one else in the country has snapped the ball over the qb's head?

Without looking it up, I don't think it has ever happened before in the history of football, college or pro.

In all seriousness, my research may be wrong, but it might be the single largest negative loss of yardage on a single play this year. All other botched snaps were for less or for turnover.

Texas snapped one to the side of McCoy if that helps.

Yes, blog, college rushing statistics include sacks.

RB's Dream

Postby Charlie NT73 » Thu Sep 13, 2007 8:39 am

Hey SMU fans-
Congratulations on your win over my Mean Green.
You guys played very good and made the plays when
they counted. I was very impressed with Willis-he is becoming
a very good QB, and the future looks very good for him. He
will be a difference maker in close games!
Runing game -
Looks like to me, NT did not need to run much in
this game. Wow-601 yds passing. (Heck, all 12 games last year
only produced 1380yds in passing.)North Texas had our true
freshman, Micah Mosley in at RB. this kid will be a good RB down
the road. Coach Dodge signed 18 kids in the 2007 class-so far,
9 of the 18 have played in the first 2 games of this season.
Coach Dodge is building for the future!

Our pass defense is tailored to make our rush defense strong. Now the Mean Green may continue to have significant success in the air but one is hard press to count on another 600+ yards passing this year. North Texas was well prepared (600+ yards isn't by mistake) and played hard. We made plays and won but Lordy, it could have gone the other way. The Ponies have got to strengthen the pass defense for ASU or it could be another 4 hour passathon.

Who wants to pick up 4 yds on the ground in one play when they can pass at will for 30?
