…UNT-SMU could resume
Officials at UNT and SMU are comparing dates for potential games in a new UNT-SMU series.
Saturday marked the end of a two-game nonconference series between the schools, but both sides are interested in a longer deal for five or more years.
"If we did anything, it wouldn't be for a couple of years," UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said, adding that both schools' 2008 and 2009 schedules are full with contracts completed or pending.
UNT plays at LSU the next two seasons and at Kansas State in 2008. Air Force plays at UNT in 2009. UNT has a home-and-home series with Rice in 2008 and 2010. One undisclosed opponent in 2008 and two in 2009 are expected to sign contracts soon, Villarreal said.

The UNT AD hasn't done TD any favors scheduling money games in Baton Rouge. If he survives these NC matchups, he deserves a BCS job.

I think scheduling regular games in the future would be
a great for both schools and for the metroplex.
I hope the games can be scheduled.

I couldn't agree more. Saturday was a fun game and North Texas brought a good sized crowd. UNT and TCU should be fixtures on our non-conference schedules for years to come.

I would have like to have seen 22,000 but I think that SMU is more to blame for the attendance. As long as it doesn't foreclose a Baylor or TCU possibility-I say play 'em. North Texas should be the ONLY Sun Belch team we play. No reason to drive 8 hours to a game when we get a Metroplex 2 for 1 by playing NTSU. You got to admit that as painful as it was to watch-the game was pretty darn exciting. We got nice media attention. Travel costs are low, receipts are high, get an extra Metroplex game each year. At least NTSU made it a better game atmosphere than just about any CUSA game. To those anti-NTSU fans I say look if you can't beat NTSU then you suck anyway and the Coach needs to be fired. Kinda like the way Tech views SMU.

I agree. I think the series should continue. But it looks like we couldn't resume it until 2010. By then, Dodge will be at UT.
Dodge at UT?

Coach Dodge to UT--maybe not. UT coach Brown got a big
pay raise, and extended contract. I think his contract runs
through 1212. If coach Brown were to step down/retire from UT,
I would say, the orangebloods would go after Major Applewhite,
who is now the OC under satan at Ala-damn-bama. Applewhite
is a big favorite with the orangebloods, ever since his playing days.
If Applewhite helps the roll tide to roll big for the next 3-4 years,
he could be a good candidate for the HC position also.

Dodge will not go to UT. He wants to keep his kid out of jail.

I would rather have SMU play Baylor...at least that way, if we win, we beat a Big XII team and an old SWC foe!!!
If we lose, oh well, it was against a big, bad Big XII team. And its Baylor, so we would never get run over by them.
There are as many or more Baylor fans who would come see SMU play than UNT fans.
In other words, keep Baylor on the extended schedules, not UNT.

I would prefer Baylor as an OOC opponent over NTSU. Much more history and lots more fans. Waco is a pretty quick trip too. If Baylor's not an option, put North Texas on the schedule. I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout last Saturday.

I wouldn't mind another game as I was out of town for the past two.

I think we should regularly schedule a 'cupcake' game, such as with Michigan or Notre Dame, every year to start the season.
