Bartel, Wallis, Phillips, and Meeks. I read a quote from Bennett that the starting job will be wide open. Is that just coach talk or the truth? Did Bartel play well enough last year to come in as the #1 or can one of our 3 star QB recuits come in and start? Personally, I think Phillips and Meeks will bring a lot to the table and give Bartel a run at #1. Any thoughts?

Bartel # 1 by a mile. Wallis to backup. Freshmen to red-shirt.

Bartel must be the prohibitive favorite. But word is that the coaches are really ecstatic about Phillips and Meeks, in particular. I tend to believe them when they say that if Meeks or Phillips arrives in August and absolutely blows them away, then they'd get a shot. But I think they'd have to not only beat Bartel, they'd have to beat him by a lot. And that's a lot to ask of a freshman, no matter how talented. You have to assume Bartel is the man. His job to lose, right?

Is Ashton Nixon out of the loop altogether?

Meeks and Phillips should be red-shirted if at all possible. If they have to play this not a good sign.

You won't see either of those freshman boys for another 3 years. You can take that to the bank.

I hope you're right because that will mean that we're successful with our upper classmen and allowing our younger talent to develop and create depth - something that we haven't had the luxury of having since the 80's.

I agree - if we don't hear from Meeks or Phillips for 3 years, it means Bartel is lighting up the field!

And I keep hearing that Wallis might end up at another position - can anyone confirm?
